Good day, dear friends! Are you ready to listen my story? I see, you are. First of all, are you a user of any social network? Do you chat with your friends in VK? Have you got a plenty of followers in Instagram? Do you write about your life in Facebook? Have you got your mobile phones on your desks just now? I see everybody has got. By the way, do you know any social networks? Name some. All right, I see you know them. I only repeat them: they are-VK, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Google plus, Classmates, where selfies are often shared.

What is Selfie? A selfie is a self-portrait photograph, typically taken with a digital camera or camera phone held in the hand or supported by a selfie stick.

The term "selfie" was discussed by photographer Jim Krause in 2005, although photos in the selfie genre predate the widespread use of the term. In the early 2000s, before Facebook became the dominant online social network, self-taken photographs were particularly common on MySpace.

Initially popular with young people, selfies gained wider popularity over time. By the end of 2012, Time magazine considered selfie one of the "top 10 buzzwords" of that year; although selfies had existed long before, it was in 2012 that the term "really hit the big time". According to a 2013 survey, two-thirds of women age 18–35 take selfies. The most common purpose for which is posting on social networking services.

If you ask me “Which of them do you personally use?”, I can say I am registered in VK. I use Instagram and Facebook. Sometimes I share news with my friends in Google plus. That’s why- My purpose of using social networks- to chat with friends, to share news with my friends, to listen to music, to communicate, to play games, to comment photos and videos. I spend some time using social networks and doing a lot of things there. Actually, how often do you go on such websites?. I want listening your answers(ответы учащихся).Nice of you. As for me, I use social network practically every day, it may be twice a day. I am always online.

The global idea of social networking was to give each person an opportunity to find classmates, relatives and old friends and chat with these people.

Now, there are many more opportunities which social networks provide us. You can use these services for your personal education by taking part in different educational programs, discussing your ideas etc. Thanks to social networks it is really easy to organize an event and invite guests. And, of course, it is the best way to keep in touch with all your friends! But there are some dangers in using different social networks — you should always remember it!

It can be addictive! If you chat with your friends more online than in real life, it isn’t a good friendship. The next thing you should not forget is that posting too much personal information on such sites can be dangerous. DON’T POST YOUR ADDRESS, YOUR E-MAIL AND TELEPHONE NUMBERS! Don’t give your password to anyone! Don’t follow the links which you have received from strangers - you could set viruses on your computer!

All these are pros and cons of social networks. At one of our English lesson we would work in one of the most popular social networks — Instagram. We made two groups. The first group should make the list of pros, and the second group — the list of cons. Then we mixed our lists and wrote new ideas about pros and cons of using social networks in our life. We would write descriptions to our photos and comment our friends’ photos in English!

The popularity of selfies in social media has been astounding and currently it is very difficult to imagine our life without this type of photos.
