Sport in our life”


Objectives: - to teach students to conduct dialogues

- to develop pupils’ language skills in new communicative situations on the basis of interactive technologies

- to motivate pupils in learning grammar (using GO, PLAY, DO - words; Present Perfect Tense)

Equipment: pictures of different kinds of sports,

cards with key words for composing dialogues,

words for the game “Hurry up” on the blackboard,

tests on the computer

  1. Warming up


  • Who is on duty today? Who is absent today?

  • What day is it today? What date is it today?

  • What is the weather like today?

P: I think the weather is good today because: The sun is shining brightly. The sky is blue. It’s not snowy. It’s not windy. It’s not wet. That’s why the weather is good today.


  • Imagine that the weather is bad today. What would you say if the weather was so?

P: I think the weather is bad today because: The sun is not shining. The sky is grey. It’s windy. It’s cold. It’s wet. That’s why the weather is bad today.


  • The theme of our lesson is “Sport in our life”. During this lesson we will revise vocabulary about sport, will read, write, listen to the text and speak, work on the computer, do some tests.

  • Pupils do you enjoy sport?

  • Do you remember the poem “Doing Sports”? Let’s recite it together.

(Pupils recite the poem)


  • Thank you. Now I suggest you play game. Look at this word (gymnastics). You should make up words connected with sport which begin with the letters forming the word “Gymnastics”.

2. Grammar Revision

Let’s remind when we use words DO - 1, GO - 2 and PLAY - 3. Explain rules with examples on the pictures. When do we use GO?

(If we speak about sports ending in –ing we use GO. For example: swimming, climbing..)

(If we speak about ball games and chess we use PLAY. For example: football, tennis)

(if we speak about other sports we use DO. For example: athletics, karate..)

  • Let’s check your hometask. Show me your pictures, please!

  • What sports is on your picture? (It’s swimming…)

  • Put a number of the word you see on the blackboard to complete the sentence.

(I DO karate. I GO swimming. I PLAY football.)

(Pupils see numbered cards with words and show own pictures to find out how to use these words. Pupils show their home work – pictures of sports and put numbers of words they suit to. For their work they get 1-3 points and fill in a blank of the Grading Table)

  3. What sports do sportsmen complete in? (Running, jumping, athletics, swimming, boxing, basketball, football.)

5. Writing

  • I see that the most of the pupils like sports. And now tell me in what way sports really help you to keep fit. How does sport help you in your life?


  • P: I go in for tennis regularly. I go in for running and aerobics. I do aerobics exercises when it is possible: while cleaning the flat, watching TV, even at breaks at school. It helps me to be healthy and keep fit.

  • P: I don’t go in for sports but I do morning exercises every day so I am full of energy.

  • P: I go jogging three times a week. It’s a great pleasure to jog early in the morning when the air is fresh. I am in high spirit, my soul is singing.

  • P: Sport is necessary for life. People who don’t go in for sports often fall ill. They have weak health.

  • P: People who go in for sports are strong and healthy and look young.

  • P: I think everybody should do sports every day. It’s very good that we have physical training at school. PT and English are my favorite lessons. I don’t think that I’ll become a famous sportsman but I go in for sports for myself. Sport helps me feel well and keep fit.

  • P: I don’t do anything special to keep fit but I get a lot of exercises doing things I enjoy. After school I play ping-pong or badminton. It helps me feel cheerful. Sport helps me even in studying.

  • Well, I am very glad that you are fond of sports. Your next task is to make up dialogues according to the situation.

One of you is an interviewer. The other is a famous sportsman. Ask and answer the questions. The interviewer wants to get the following information:

  • when the sportsman began to go in for sports;

  • if s/he wanted to become a professional;

  • how much time s/he trains a day;

  • her/his hobby;

  • her/his advice to young people who want to make a career in sport.


- When have you begun to go in for sport? – I have begun to go in for sport when I was 7 years old.

- Did you want to become a professional? – Yes, I did. I always dreamed to be a top player.

- How much time did you train a day? – I trained 5 hours a day.

- What are your hobbies? – My hobbies are running,

- What is your advice to young people who want to make a career in sport? – Young people have to go in for sport because it’s very important for their health.


Situation 2

One of you is an American student who came to your school, the other one is a pupil. Ask and answer the questions. An American boy wants to get the following information:

  • sports and games popular in your school;

  • where children can do sports;

  • sport equipment at school;

  • competitions held for school sports teams.


  • What sports and games are popular in your school? – Football and volleyball are popular in our school.

  • Where do the pupils do sports? – They do sports on the sports-ground and in the gym.

  • Do you have any sport equipment? – Yes, we do.

  • What competitions did you hold at school? – We held football and volleyball competitions.
