Ведущий 1: All The World‘s a Stage?

Ведущий 2:

All The World’s a Stage

And all the men and women merely players;

They have their exits and their entrances;

And one man in his time plays many parts, Сл. 2

Ведущий 1: Dear ladies and gentlemen! You’ve just listened to Jaques’ monologue from one of William Shakespeare’s plays “As You Like It”. And we invite you to join our exciting literary exploration.

Ведущий 2: English people often call him “The Swan of Avon”, “English national bard”. Shakespeare is not only a playwright; he is the greatest mind, philosopher and poet of past millennium. As Pushkin is a symbol of Russian culture, so W. Shakespeare is for the world.

Ведущий 2: The world he created is unique. He is tragic, comic, sweet and compassionate. We welcome you to get acquainted with the biography of this great man. Let’s have a tour about his birthplace – Stratford upon Avon. Here are your guides. Сл. 3

(PRESENTATION OF BIOGRAPHY) 10а Сл. 4-13

Ведущий 1: Сл. 14 W. Shakespeare wrote 154 sonnets. Sonnet is one of the most difficult poetic forms. All Shakespeare’s sonnets consist of 14 lines and the last 2 lines are always aphoristic. You will see it yourselves if you listen to any of his sonnets. We’d like you to listen to sonnet # 90 recited by_Дина Ладыгина, Form 9a. Сл. 15 Ауд.2

(SONNET # 90)

Ведущий 2: All the creative work of W. Shakespeare can be divided into 2 periods. In his first period (1590-1600) he is young, optimistic and believes in the harmony in the world. Shakespeare is sure that mankind can achieve perfection, that’s why at that period he writes comedies and historical novels, which are full of love, jokes and humanism. We can see it also in the sonnets of that time.

Ведущий 1: A very impressive sonnet of Shakespeare’s optimistic period of life is sonnet # 130. You will hear it presented by Сергей Зюзин, the student of the 9th form. Сл. 16 Ауд.3

(SONNET # 130)

Ведущий 1: Сл. 17 More than 4 centuries have passed but Shakespeare’s immortal works are still рорular and performed and will be performed for many years. People in different countries translate them into their own languages, study them and put them to music. Сл. 18 Now you will hear sonnet 130 put to music. Екатерина Медведева, form 8а Ауд.4

Песня на сонет

Ведущий 2: In the second period (1600-1608) Shakespeare loses his optimism and faith, that the harmony in the world can be achieved. He is disappointed in life, he sees that society he lives in is full of jealousy, ambition, money worship, that’s why in this period he writes tragedies. And one of his best tragedies is “Hamlet”. Сл. 19

Ведущий 1:Hamlet, a young noble man, seeing such human qualities as duty, honesty and justice destroyed, begins to doubt the value of life itself. And you can hear his doubt and disappointment in his soliloquy |səˈlɪləkwi| performed by Георгий Калмыков, Form 9a. Сл. 20 Ауд.5

Монолог Гамлета To be or not to Be

Ведущий 2: One can hardly come across any other name in world literature that could be compared with the name of William Shakespeare.

Ведущий 1:The greatest and the best interpreter of human nature, the poet of the widest sympathies, of the most profound knowledge of mankind, William Shakespeare inspired many talented people by his works. Сл. 21 His famous “Othello” has hundreds of different screened, staged, animated versions.

Ведущий 2: So let us have a look at one more version, presented by the students of the 10th form. Сл. 22
