Author: Once upon a time there lived a lovely Goat. Her life was easy and pleasant. She was very nice by nature and she wanted very much to be always good-looking. She liked to wear beautiful dresses. She didn’t eat much, because she wanted to be slim. Her favourite activities were: fitness, running, jumping and reading. She was fond of reading very much. So, you can see that she didn’t have any duties…

Goat: What?! Why are you saying so?! No duties! I do have a lot of duties! I have to think about many important things, for example, how to organize a party, whom to invite, what dishes to prepare… And horoscopes… Don’t you know that I plan all the things in accordance with the horoscopes?!

(reads a horoscope)

Oh, what I see! The year of a goat! My year! Is it really MY Year? The next year will be MY Year! So, I’m responsible for everything and everybody in the world! What exciting news! How surprisingly! Oh, I have to think about it. I’m so tired of impressions. I’m sleepy… I need a rest.

The Author: Our Goat went to bed and quickly got asleep. In her dream she found herself in the library and had a talk with the characters of well-known books.

The Author 2: Among them there were Robinson Crusoe, who had lived alone on an island for many years; Carlson, a funny fat man, who lived on the roof and was always ready to play jokes on people; a Little Prince who could take care about his small planet; a Happy Prince, who wasn’t really happy; Tom Sawyer, a naughty boy from Mark Twain’s book and his girl-friend Becky Thatcher.

The Goat’s dream

Goat: My dear friends! I’ve got something interesting for you! The New Year, which is going to come soon, will be My Year, the Year of a Goat! Can you imagine it? I have a lot of things to do: to organize a great festival, to teach everybody dancing and singing, to invent new attractions for fun…

Happy Prince: Dear Goat! You are so energetic in organizing parties and festivals, but I must tell you that life is not the sea of happiness… Just look around. There are so serious problems in the world. Many people on our planet live in poverty and suffer from wars.

Goat: Poverty? What does it mean?

Happy Prince: It means that they don’t have necessary things: clothes, food, houses…

Goat: Oh, really? I’m so upset to hear it. And the war? What’s it?

Happy Prince: There are places on our planet where people kill each other with the help of guns and other weapons.

Little Prince: Besides, our planet is in danger, because people pollute it with harmful waste. As the result of it the air, water, earth are poisoned. A lot of forests are destroyed. Many species of animals, birds, fishes became extinct.

Tom Sawyer: I’ll find those wicked people and give them what-for!!! They will see!

Becky Thatcher: Oh, Tom, don’t say so! It’s not polite!

Tom Sawyer: I don’t want to be polite with those who does harm to our planet. I will fight them!

Becky Thatcher: Tom, you are a real hero! Can I help you?

Tom Sawyer: Of course, Becky, we’ll fight them together!

Goat: I really didn’t know about such awful things. We must do something to save our planet, but I don’t know what… Please, help me.

Everybody: We’ll help you!

Little Prince: I know how to keep my planet clean. I can take care about flowers. You know, I love the Rose who is so weak and feeble. I can give her everything she needs. I also can give my care to different plants.

Robinson Crusoe: I’m sure that my experience of organizing the living will be useful for everybody. You know that I spent many years on an island where there were no people. I managed to build a house with the wall around it, defending me from wild animals.

Carlson: Don’t think about dark sides of life! Be happy! Let’s fly with me. I live on the roof – this is my house. When I see that somebody is sad, I try to appear suddenly and make the boy’s or the girl’s mood higher. Eat strawberry jam and enjoy your life! The New Year is coming and I hope that it will bring a lot of joy and fun.

Goat: Oh, we’ve completely forgotten about the preparation for the New Year party. What do you think about Santa Claus and Snow-maiden? Shall we invite them?

Santa Claus: Don’t worry! We are already here. We know our job well and always do it perfectly.

Snow-maiden: Rudolf tried to do his best to bring us in time. And now we are here.

Rudolf: I was running very fast all the way. My passengers – Santa and Snow-maiden were in my sledges and also a lot of presents for children.

Goat: Really? It’s very interesting! Will you show us the presents?

Santa, Snow-maiden, Rudolf: With great pleasure!

Snow-maiden: My present is Love for everybody. Take it and love each other, your nearest and dearest!

Rudolf: My presents are Health, Strength and High Mood. Never be ill and smile a lot!

Santa: My present is for all people living on the Earth. This is our planet with its woods, rivers, lakes, oceans, seas, mountains, deserts. It is huge, but very fragile. Don’t forget it.

Santa, Snow-maiden, Rudolf: And we have brought a lot of sweets for children! Help yourself!

Goat: Oh, what a wonderful dream… Santa… Snow-maiden…Rudolf…and all my friends! So, it wasn’t a dream, was it? You are all here. I’m so happy to see you! I’ve understood: on Christmas Eve wonders happen! So, let’s have a party!

Author: And everybody began to sing, dance and play. Let’s play together!

The Author 1: Good-day, boys and girls! Do you remember us? We met last year. It was the eve of the New Year. We were going to celebrate the Year of a Goat. Let me tell you about our Goat. She is very nice. She is so merry, gracious.

The Author 2: At the beginning of our story her life was easy and pleasant. She was very nice by nature and she wanted very much to be always good-looking. She liked to wear beautiful dresses. She didn’t eat much, because she wanted to be slim. Her favourite activities were: fitness, running, jumping and reading.

The Author 1: So, you can see that she didn’t have any duties…but then she understood that there was a great number of troubles and problems in life. The Goat decided to do good things and help everybody who needs help. The Author 2: Oh, can you hear? Our Goat is coming here. By the way, she is very good at dancing.

(the Goat comes in and begins to dance).

The Goat: Oh, dear guests! I’m so glad to see you! I hope, you had a very good year. Do you know that it was MY YEAR? Different events happened during those twelve months. In spring we were glad to see the bright sun and first flowers. In summer it was very hot and people spent their free time in the forest or near the river. In autumn red, yellow, brown and golden leaves were everywhere. And then again winter came. Now we are waiting for the New Year.

Carlson: Oh, what I hear! We are going to celebrate the New Year, aren’t we? I’m so glad. There will be a lot of tasty cakes and much sweet jam. We’ll eat candies, honey, apples, bananas, oranges, tangerines… Do you like tangerines? As for me, I adore them!

Little Prince: And I like all kinds of flowers very much: tulips, daffodils, lilies, daisies. Of course, my Rose is jealous, but what can I do? All flowers are so beautiful! When my planet is full of flowers it looks like one huge flower-bed.

Robinson Crusoe: Our planet is full not only of flowers, but also of oceans and seas, rivers and lakes, fields and mountains. As for me, I especially like uninhabited islands. Life there is so wonderful!

Happy Prince: Life must be wonderful in every corner of the Earth. I’m ready to give all my treasures - gold and precious stones – to those who are in need. I dream of life without wars, diseases, hunger and catastrophes.

Tom Sawyer: And I would fight with everybody who tries to ruin peace! I usually don’t give bad people any quarter, but I hate wars! I really hate them, believe me.

Becky Thatcher: Oh, Tom, you are so brave! While there are such courageous people as you are, we can be safe. Oh, hush! Can you hear? The bells are ringing!

Santa Claus: Dear friends! We are here again! I’m so glad to see you! I was missing you all the year round.

Rudolf: I’m also very glad to meet you again. I was running even faster than last year.

Snow Maiden: Yes, Rudolf was so fast that I hardly managed to keep myself in the sledge.

Rudolf: Dear Snow Maiden, I tried to be very careful!

Santa Claus: And where is our beautiful Goat?

The Goat: I’m here, dear Santa. I was waiting for you and Snow Maiden. Thank you, Rudolf, that you are not late for our party.

Santa Claus: Dear Goat, you are so smart and hard-working. I know that you did your best to be a good hostess of the Year. Your Year will come to the history. Thank you for your job.

The Goat: My friends helped me in good deeds.

Carlson: My duty was to make people’s mood higher. I tried to cheer children and grown-ups and I also gave everybody strawberry jam.

Little Prince: And I took care of all kinds of flowers. I also was responsible for the cleanness of forests and fields.

Robinson Crusoe: As for me, I tried to help people keep lakes and rivers clean. Besides, I taught my friends to be fit and eat only healthy food.

Happy Prince: I helped poor and sick people overcome their difficulties. Charity is the main goal of my life.

Tom Sawyer: And I was looking for evil people and explained them how to behave.

Becky Thatcher: But it was me who was teaching Tom Sawyer how to behave.

Tom Sawyer: What to say? Becky is usually right.

Santa Claus: Who is there? Can you see?

Everybody: Where? I can’t see. Yes, there is somebody.

Rudolf: I know who it is. A Monkey!

Everybody: A Monkey?

The Goat: What does she do here?

Santa Claus: I know. I’m sorry to say, dear Goat, but the next year won’t be YOUR Year. It will be the Year of Monkey!

The Goat: It’s a pity, but what is to be done? I understand.

Snow Maiden: Dear Monkey! Don’t be afraid of us. Come to us. We are waiting for you.

Santa Claus: Do you know that Monkey is very clever and curious?

Everybody: Come to us, dear Monkey! Oh, you look fine. Don’t be ashamed. Feel at home. Let’s be friends.

Santa Claus: Tell about yourself, dear Monkey. It’s very interesting.

Monkey: Hello. I’m the Monkey. I’m going to be the hostess of the Year 2016.

Everybody: We are happy to see you here! Tell us about yourself.

Monkey: As you know, I’m from warm countries. I like bananas, apples, oranges and all kinds of tasty food. I like to dance and climb the trees…

The Goat: You are so funny…. Oh, don’t be offended.

Monkey: I’m not offended at all! I have a good sense of humour. I also like to wear bright clothes. That’s why don’t forget to decorate yourselves with tinsel and coloured stones when you celebrate the New Year!

The Goat: By the way, about the New Year celebrations… what advice can you give to us?

Everybody: How should we be dressed? What food are we going to eat?

Monkey: So, listen. You should wear bright clothes, especially red. As for food, you may eat everything you want, not only bananas.

Santa Claus: I like frozen fish.

Snow Maiden: And I prefer ice-cream.

Everybody: Different salads. Sweets. Roast chicken. Cakes and pies. Lemonade.

Santa Claus: I know, that monkey is original and inventive.

Snow Maiden: And one more advice: to be successful in finances wrap a silver coin with silky cloth and put it into the pocket.
