Lesson Outline
Revision: present simple and present continuous tenses
Level C – be able to give the definition of the two tenses and explain the usage with examples,
Level B – be able to give the definition of the two tenses and the usage in a few words,
Level C – be able to explain one of the two tenses and bring at least an example.
A warm-up activity: information-gap activity: half a crossword: irregular verbs.
The students are divided into two groups (A and B). Both groups are given the same crossword which is only half filled in. Each group takes it in turn to ask what the missing verbs are. Ex. Student A may ask, “What is 7 across?” Student B may answer, “It is the past tense of bring.” Each group is given the list of the missing verbs.
Verbs which group B will ask for:
Atedrank kept said taught
Bit dug lit sat threw
Broke fell lost shoot told
Brought forgot rode spoke understood
Chose fought
Verbs which group A will ask for:
Began gave lay ran slept
Bought grew led sang sold
Caught held left shot thought
Drew hid met shrank went

Exercise 1, page 15 – Put the infinitives in brackets into the present simple or present continuous tenses.

Exercise 4, page 16 – Complete the sentences. Use the correct form of these verbs: close, drink, go, have, like, meet, speak, teach, wash.
