Now Taganrog is an important research, cultural and industrial center in Southern Russia.
It has a vast network of educational establishments, ranging from Radio Engineering University and Teachers Training College to technical and vocational lyceums and high schools.
History can be found around almost every bend in Taganrog. The memorial theater, Chekhov library, several museums, such as Chekhov House, Literary Museum, Durov Museum, Art Museum and other stand as hallmarks of the Russian culture.
We divided all town monuments into three groups:

The Monument to Anton Chekhov
The Monument to Anton Chekhov, sculpted by Iulian Rukavishnikov. Located in the Chekhov Square in Taganrog. It was unveiled on January 29, 1960, to coincide with the writer's centennial birth anniversary.
The Chekhov Square was planted in the Red Square (in front of Alexandrovskiye Trade Rows) in Taganrog in 1934 to mark the writers 75th anniversary in 1935. The Monument to Chekhov acts as a tribute paid by the people of Taganrog to their most renowned fellow townsman.
The Monument to Faina Ranevskay
The Monument to Faina Ranevskaya, designed and sculpted by David Begalov is located in front of Faina Ranevskaya's birth house in Taganrog.
Faina Ranevskaya (1896-1984) is recognized as one of the greatest comic actors of the 20th Century.
Taganrog Local Government is planning to open a museum dedicated to Ranevskaya in the near future. A monument to Faina Ranevskaya (by the artist David Begalov) in front of the house was unveiled on May 16, 2008
The monument to Alexander I
The monument to Alexander I of Russia was erected on the initiative of the people of Taganrog in memory of the emperor's stay and death in the city. The statue was sculpted by Ivan Martos.
In 1920 the monument was destroyed (in 1932 the statue was remelted).
In 1998 in the course of celebrations of the tercentenary of Taganrog the monument was reconstructed according to original plans at the same place. The reconstruction was financed by the Rossiyskiy Kredit Bank.
The obelisk in honor Garibaldi
In 1961 Taganrog paid the tribute to the staying of Garibaldi with one of the downtown streets named after him (Ulitsa Garibaldi), and with an obelisk in honor of Garibaldi not far from the seaport where stood his schooner Clorinda. In Taganrog, Giuseppe Garibaldi joined the society “Young Italy” and took an oath of dedicating his life to struggle for liberation of his Homeland from Austrian dominance.
The obelisk in honor of Garibaldi’s visit to Taganrog was inaugurated on June 2, 1961 for the centenary of Italy’s liberation. The local artist Yakovenko realized the project of the monument.
The plaque on the place in Gorky Park, where the meeting of Taganrog citizens was held after the liberation of Taganrog on August 31,1943.
The eternal flame at the central alley of Gorky Park.
The monument to sailors of the Azov Flotilla who participated in the defense of Taganrog in 1941 and the liberation in 1943. Inaugurated in May 1975.
Monument to Ivan Golubets
The monument "Oath of the Youth“ to heroes of the Taganrog resistance movement. Inaugurated on August 30, 1973 on Spartakovski pereulok, in front of the Chekhov Gymnasium.
