Great Britain is a part of the United Kingdom. Britain lies towards the northwest of Continental Europe. It is a big island encircled by around 1,000 small islands. It is located only 35 km from France. It includes Scotland, Wales and England. England is the largest of all of these. There are lots of rivers in Great Britain. But they aren’t very long. The largest of them are the Severn, the Clyde, the Mersey, the Thames, the Trent and the Ouse. The Thames is the deepest one. The climate of Great Britain is temperate and mild. The warm waters of the Gulf Stream influence the climate of the British Isles.

• French was the official language for about 300 years.
• It’s the other way around in Great Britain. Exactly, British people drive on the left.
• Official holiday «the birthday of the British monarch» doesn’t coincide with the actual date of birth the British queen. Elisabeth II was born on April, 21, but the birthday celebrates in the 3 Saturday of June.

Big Ben

When most people think of Big Ben, they think of the clock tower there at the Houses of Parliament. But the thing is, that’s *not* Big Ben. Big Ben is actually a nickname that refers to the Great Bell within the tower itself. Officially, the tower is called Elizabeth Tower, connected to the Palace of Westminster.

Piccadilly circus

Piccadilly Circus is a famous road junction and public space of London’s West End in the City of Westminster, built in 1819 to connect Regent street with the major shopping street of Piccadilly. On this square always reigns an energetic atmosphere and it is always crowded by numerous number of tourists. The main landmarks of this square are huge neon ads and the monument to charity activities of Lord Shaftesbury.
