The Organizing of the Ethnic Structure in Dimitrovgrad

Nowadays people are mostly interested in national problems. We think that many of young people would like to know the history of the ethnic composition forming.

Ethnos is a nation, which combines biological and social characteristics.

Now this questions is very topical, because after disintegration of the USSR everybody began looking for the «cradle», protecting their culture. And if people know more about each other and respect national features, they will become more tolerant.

The Chuvash could be the formers of our town. It can be so, because they came here from Chuvash Republic more than 400 years ago and decided to stay here.

That’s why they were the main dwellers of Meleckess, but soon the Russians, the Mordva, the Tatar and other nationalities also came here.

There is a social chamber in our town.

You can see there the representatives from Chuvash, Mordva, Jewish, Ukrainian and Armenian organizations.

Practically all the people, living in Dimitrovgrad take part in national holidays, which are celebrated in the town (for example, Easter or Epiphany).

Only a few dozens of years ago a huge part of our population used to be uneducated, but everything changed and nowadays Russian is spoken by 95-98% of our town’s population.

In the 70-s and the 80-s international marriages in our town became more frequent. After we asked 61 young people from the age of 15 to the age of 18 of what they think about international marriages, we learned, that 57% are absolutely positive, 8% are negative and the rest didn’t give us any answer.

We asked 61 students what they think about people of another nationality living or studying nearby and if they liked to contact with them. 69% said that anationality doesn’t matter, 4% said that it matters a lot for them, and the rest 27% gave no answer.

We also asked a few casual passersby what they think about people whose nationality is not Russian.

32% were positive about them and 11% were negative.

This research proves the fact that there are no vivid national conflicts in Dimitrovgrad because of the historic background.

Everyone should remember that any country would never be able to eliminate the possibility of the appearance of stress among people of different nationalities, but each of us starts such relationship himself.

We think that this research can help us to save our culture and relationship of our nation.
