Наречия. Adverbs

Наречия в английском языке могут быть простые и производные. Примерами простых наречий являются: well, hard, much, quite, enough, always, once, very, often.

Обычным способом образования производных наречий в английском языке является прибавление суффикса -ly к существительным или прилагательным. Эти производные делятся на две группы:

  1. Совпадающие по значению, от которых они произведены:

Quick-quickly Part-partly Day-daily Slow-slowly Easy- easily

  1. Не совпадающие по значению, от которых, они произведены:

Short – короткий Hard –твёрдый Near –близкий Late -поздний Scarce –скудный

Shortly –недавно Hardly- едва Nearly - почти Lately- недавно Scarcely –еле-еле

Наречия, совпадающие по форме с прилагательными: Fast, late, long

They took a fast train. He rode fast. That was a long way. She waited long.

We heard a loud noise. The teacher always reads loud enough. We went there by a late train. We came home too late. An early bird catches the best worms. You have come too early.

It was a wide road. She opened her eyes wide, but saw nothing in the darkness.

It was a hard nut to crack. Martin worked hard at his English.



The sun shines brightly. She spoke loudly. The old man moved slowly. She works hard at her Math.

The machine hardly works something wrong with it. They came late. The rabbits have lately become restless.

I live quite near. I have nearly forgotten about it. She runs extremely fast. This room looks too dark.

It is not good enough. She sings beautifully. I have never seen such a splendid picture.

I distinctly remember a hot afternoon. I only went there alone.

К большинству наречий в сравнительной степени прибавляется слово more и в превосходной слово most:

The horse waited patiently for its master. The dog waited more patiently than the horse.

The elephant waited most patiently for its master.

Сравнение производится также при помощи слов less и least:

The sportsman bravely fought with the opponent. His friend less bravely spoke to them in the meeting.Their team least bravely behave in that battle. Fast – faster-fastest soon-sooner- soonest

She sings quite loud but they want her to sing louder. Of all the singers I have heard she sang loudest.

Badly- worse-worst well-better- best little-less-least much-more-most far-farther-farthest; far- further-furthest

They played tennis worse than I had expected and among them he played worst of all.

Now you speak better than you did last year. I like her best of all. They went farther and farther.

He did not say anything further.

Put the adverbs in proper places:

  1. The weather was gloomy on that day. (extremely)

  2. I have seen a talking parrot. (never)

  3. We shall go to the country. (tomorrow)

  4. My aunt Julia lives with her little daughter. (Here)

  5. The boys opened that magazine. (seldom)

  6. I looked at the apple, I didn’t touch it. (only)

  7. Poor Bob has realized how long it is from breakfast to dinner. (never, before)

  8. His father has been in the Far East two years. (nearly)

  9. I could thank my sister. (hardly, enough)

  10. Everything was ready. (quite, soon)
