One of these branches is The Business English which contains a lot of discourse markers on business that can be used and it is preferable to use these discourse markers during business meetings, because they connect ideas, thought and your speech. If we do not use any discourse markers in our speech it will be poor, deprived of colour, intonation, your ideas will not be correctly connected with each other and your speech will make no sense for the listeners, and they would not like to hear what you say.

They must have their concrete role while being used in business meeting. You must know every feature of the discourse markers, every meaning of them, because there are a lot of expressions that are very similar to each other in their structural form, but are very different in meaning and in the use field. That is why they are very confusing in some cases and we should be very careful and sensible while using them.

All the points that were set out above are within the scope of our research. While carrying out these pieces of research I really understood the importance and the great role of the discourse markers in written language, such as in official and informal letters, in oral speech to which the main part of the discourse markers belong.

They have their degree of importance in every field. For instance when they are used in letters they have their precise and set expressions that cannot be changed in any way; they must be used as they are, or when we use these discourse markers in oral speech we can use discourse markers for both writing and for the oral speech.

Some people are skeptical to the importance of the discourse markers in our speech and writing but if they learn some peculiarities of them they will see and feel its importance; that is out of the question.

As a “researcher” of this topic I assure you that the great role of the discourse markers in the English language is out of the question, but they should not overweigh in our speech.
