Традиции и обычаи английской кухни " English Cafe "

Ежегодно в рамках Недели английского языка, проводимой в нашей школе, открывается английское кафе, которое знакомит учащихся с традициями и обычаями английской кухни. В кафе исполняют песни и читают стихи на английском языке.

Роли и обязанности между учащимися распределяются следующим образом:

4 повара (cooks):

1-й повар готовит пудинг (pudding),

2-й повар готовит блины (pancakes),

3-й повар гото­вит бекон с яичницей (bacon and eggs),

4-й повар гото­вит овсянку (porridge). Во время работы паба они го­товят бутерброды - хлеб с сыром (bread and cheese),

тосты с мармеладом (toasts with marmalade), чай (tea), кофе (coffee), овсяные хлопья с молоком (cornflakes with milk);

• 2 официантки (waitresses);

1 оператор (a cameraman) для видеосъемок;

• 2 ведущих (announcers).

Большое внимание необходимо уделить интерьеру кафе. Учащимся заранее дается задание принести коробочки, па­кетики из-под продуктов, производимых в англоязычных странах, с надписями

Made in England / Canada / the USA / Australia/ New Zealand,

например, пакетики из-под чая, ов­сяных хлопьев.

Оформительская группа готовит:

• Рекламную табличку кафе « THE RED ROSE»:

таблички: "open” (на время, когда кафе открыто),

“close” (если кафе закрыто); цветы, салфетки , све­чи

красочные плакаты с надписями:

1st Announcer: Dear guests! We are happy to see you in our cafe “The Red Rose”. You know, cafes are an important part of British life. People talk, eat, drink, meet their friends and relax here. They are open at lunchtime and again in the evening. But they close at 11:00 pm (10:30 on Sundays). There are thou­sands in Britain, and they nearly all sell lunches..

2nd Announcer: I’d like to tell you about a real English break­fast. For a real English breakfast you may have cornflakes with milk and sugar, or bacon and eggs, toast and marma­lade, tea or coffee.

There’s an interesting story about the word “marmalade“. It may come from the French Marie est malade, or Mary is ill. That’s because the seventeenth-century Queen of Scot­land, Mary Queen of Scots, liked it. She always asked for French orange jam when she was ill.

But nowadays some people just have a cup of tea or coffee with a toast or something like that. This is usually called a continental breakfast.

1st Announcer: I’d like to tell you now about pancakes. Brit­ish people eat pancakes on Shrove Tuesday in February or March. For pancakes you need flour, eggs and milk. Then you eat them with sugar or lemon. In some parts of Britain there are pancake races on Shrove Tuesday. Peo­ple race with a frying pan in one hand. They have to “toss” the pancakes (throw it in the air and catch it again in the frying pan).

2nd Announcer: Tea is Britan’s favourite drink. It’s also a meal in the afternoon. You can drink tea at home or in a hotel. You can drink Indian or China tea. There are cucumber, ham,cheese, sandwiches and scones (Scottish cakes) you eat with jam and cream. There are chocolate cakes and cream cakes too.

1st Announcer: I’d like to tell you about a famous Christmas pudding. Some people make this pudding months before Christmas. A lot of families have their own Christmas pud­ding recipes. Some, for example, use a lot of brandy. Others put in a lot of fruit or add a coin for good luck. Real Christ­mas pudding always have a piece of holly on the top. Holly bushes and trees have red berries at Christmastime, and so people use holly to decorate their houses for Christmas. The holly on the pudding is part of the decoration. Also, you can pour brandy over the pudding and light it with a match. 2nd Announcer: Now we want you to relax and taste our dishes, watch a film about our trip to London, listen to songs and poems.
