The flora of Kazakhstan
There are about 6 thousand species of plants on the territory of Kazakhstan. Vegetation varies widely throughout Kazakhstan in its 4 zones: steppe, forest-steppe, semi-desert and desert.
The area of forest-steppe lies in the far north of the country and takes less than 1% of the total area. Flora is represented by species such as bushy fescue, bluegrass, timothy, from higher plants
birch, aspen and oak, linden and alder.
Kazakhstan steppes cover a great part of the country and stretch from west to east. This is a huge territory, in which there is a large amount of grass and drought-resistant shrubs. In humid areas close to the river, there are reeds sedges. The peculiarity of the steppes is the fact that all the beauty and colors are concentrated in a short period of time – in the spring. In midsummer the grass prairie burns and becomes yellow. There are many representatives of medicinal plants, such as tutsan, wild rose and valerian. The flower of the steppes are Adonis, clover, tansy, feverweed, pasque-flowers, tulips, daisies, fleur-de-lis.
