Information University of California is an Association of 10 public California universities. It is considered to be the best state University in the world and the only state University that is included in the top 10 educational institutions in the world. The oldest and most prestigious University in the California system is the University of California in Berkeley which was founded in 1868.

History In 1866, it was purchased by a private California College, which was managed by Henry Durant in 1855. He became the first President of the University. The University matured under the leadership of Benjamin Wheeler. He was able to attract new proffesors to the University and provide funds for research and scholarships. Robert Sproul was the next President of the University. During his administration, Berkeley became internationally known as one of the University's largest research centers. Despite difficulties during the great depression and world war II, Sproul tried to maintain the level of science and education. In 1942, the American Board of education named Berkeley the second most distinguished University after Harvard.
