Once a French cab driver played a joke on Conan Doyle. The driver took the writer from the station to the hotel and said : “Good morning, Mr. Conan Doyle. How was your journey? Was your compartment comfortable?” Conan Doyle was surprised and asked: “Do you know my name? Have you recognized me?” The driver answered: “I have seen in the papers that the driver is coming to Paris. Your appearance is typically English and I guess at once who you are.” Then he smiled and added: “Your name is written on your luggage.”
