THE REPUBLIC OF TUVA

The republic of Tuva is situated in the South-East of Siberia. In the West Tuva borders on the Republic of Altai, in the North-West and in the West Tuva borders on the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the Khakas Republic. In the Noth-East Tuva borders on the Irkutsk territory and the Buryat Republic. In the South and South East it borders on Mongolia.

Tuva is a mountainous region. Mountains comprise 82% of the whole terrirory of Tuva. The highest point in Tuva is the Mount Mongun-Taiga (Silver Taiga). The lowest point is on the river Khemchik, about 508 meters above sea level.

In the Bai-Taiga region, on the mountain of Saryg -Khaya there is a soft stone called agalmatolite, a

type of soap stone. Tuvan masters make figures of different domestic and wild animals, chess pieces, and other things of this stone.

The flag of Tuva was designed in 1992. Yellow means official religion - Buddhism. Light blue suggests the courage and firmness of the nomadic herdsmen. The stripes represent the confluence of the Bii-Khem and Kaa-Khem rivers where they form the Ulug-Khem (Yenisei).

The symbol of Tuva is a light blue field with a yellow border. In the center of the field is a traditional horseman, symbolizing Tuva's sovereignty and spirit. The symbol was created in 1992.
