Цель: развитие познавательного интереса к изучению английского языка.

Задачи:

- познавательные: узнать об истории праздника;

- воспитательные: прививать милосердие и любовь к матери;

- учебные: развивать навыки устной речи и чтения, работы в группе

Ход мероприятия:

Вступление (учитель): Good morning! Today we will speak about Mother`s Day. День матери - особый день, особый праздник, который набирает популярность в нашей стране. День матери - праздник, популярный и в англоговорящих странах. Today we will find out more about this holiday. I will give each pair the texts and some time to read it. Then each pair will tell us what they have read about.

(Учащиеся разделены на пары. Уровень владения английским языком у учащихся отличается, поэтому тексты, которые выданы на группу различаются по уровню сложности.)

Mother’s Day in Russia is quite a new holiday. It has been celebrated since November 1998. People in Russia honored their moms on the last Sunday in November.

Different countries celebrate Mother’s Day on various days of the year. Today Mother’s Day is celebrated in more than 50 countries at different times in the month of May, in some countries it is celebrated in March, August or in October.

This holiday gives you the opportunity to tell your mother how much she means to you. Let her know how special her love for you is. Mother’s day is a wonderful holiday.

There are some facts about this holiday. The earliest history of Mother’s Day dates back to the ancient times. The Greeks to held festivities, the ancient Romans, too, celebrated a spring festival. The celebration lasted for three days and included parades, games and masquerades.

The early Christians celebrated a Mother's Day of on the fourth Sunday of Lent in honor of, the Mother of Christ. But then the custom of celebrating Mothering Sunday died out almost completely by the 19th century.

The story of Mother’s Day began in the USA with the efforts of a dynamic writer and poetess, Julia Ward Howe in 1872. She initiated a Mothers' Peace Day observance on the second Sunday in June in Boston and held the meeting for a number of years. Her idea spread but was later replaced by the Mothers' Day holiday now celebrated in May.

Mother`s day was celebrated first in 1908 in America. Anna Jarvis is recognized as the Founder of Mother’s Day in the USA. Though Anna Jarvis never married and never had kids, she is also known as the Mother of Mother’s Day, an apt title for the lady who worked a lot to bestow honor on all mothers.

By 1911, Mother's Day was celebrated in almost every state in the Union and on May 8, 1914 President Woodrow Wilson signed a Joint Resolution designating the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day. The symbol of the holiday were Carnations Anna’s mother favorite flowers. Anna felt that they symbolized a mother’s pure love.

Бог ответил:
- Я подарю тебе ангела, который всегда будет рядом с тобой. Он всё тебе объяснит.

- Но как я пойму его, ведь я не знаю его язык?

- Ангел будет учить тебя своему языку. Он будет охранять тебя от всех бед.

- Как и когда я должен вернуться к тебе?

- Твой ангел скажет тебе всё.

- А как зовут моего ангела?

- Неважно как его зовут, у него много имён. Ты будешь называть его «Мама»

Учитель: Thank you. To conclude our meeting I would like to say some words. Сегодня звучат самые теплые слова о самом дорогом для нас человеке на свете. Мы все, конечно же, любим свою маму, дорожим ею и не можем представить свою жизнь без нее. Но задайте себе вопрос «Часто ли мы говорим своей маме, как любим ее, как нуждаемся в ней и как благодарны за все ту, ласку и заботу, что она дарит нам каждый день. Так давайте же чаще говорить своим мамам о любви, помогать им в их нелегком каждодневном труде и не забывать, что это единственный человек, который любит не за хорошие оценки и поступки, не за красоту и талант, а просто, потому что она – МАМА. Поэтому, я предлагаю Вам сегодня дома сесть и написать письмо своим мамам, в котором Вы бы смогли поблагодарить их или извиниться за что-то, или просто сказать о том, что Вы их очень любите, ведь написать бывает легче, чем что-то сказать в глаза.
