VLADIMIR

During my stay in Russia last spring I was often sulking about not having any break for the second year in a row. Then, out of nowhere, Women's Day appeared. I believe it was the Goddess of Womenwho granted me, together with the rest of our group, an exciting three-day, two-night excursion to Vladimir and Suzdal.

You know that Women's Day is a holiday hat is celebrated each year on March 8th in Russia and around the world. Families and friends shower women with flowers, girls, cards, and attention on this day. We have a similar festival in America, Mother's Day, which is celebrated on November 30th only all women are honored in Russia.

My mates for this trip included seven Russian students, eight American students, a tour guide, and a bus driver. We started our journey at noon on Women's Day, March 8th. It look us four hours on a comfortable charter bus to get out of Moscow and through Russia's countryside arrive in Vladimir.

It was a really wonderful trip also because it was everyone's first trip to Vladimir and Suzdal, including the Russian students. These towns were amazingly beautiful with many churches and histories that span a millennium. We heard a bell concert at a monastery and had an excellent tour guides who detailed the history, buildings, and artwork. We found an array of inexpensive and quality souvenirs in both towns and also got to experience severaltraditional Russian meals during the trip.

The weekend turned out completely magical with sights of glistening snow, cozy villages, and horse-drawn sleighs. This look into Russia's past left us with many memories to treasure and pictures to share with our friends and families back in America.
