National costumes of Scotland
The traditional men's suit, the main distinguishing feature of which is a small kilt - a men's skirt with large folds in the back, knee-length skirt, sewn from a woolen checkered fabric - tartan.
Over a linen shirt or woolen doublet jacket, a tartan cape (plaid) is thrown over one shoulder, and knee-length stockings (knee-highs) and shoes with metal buckles are put on the legs. In addition to the kilt, the national costume also includes a beret (Tam-o-shenter) with a feather or pompom and a sporran - a leather wallet trimmed with fur (often seals) that hangs on the belt of the kilt or on a separate narrow strap or chain that covers the hips. Modern Scots with a kilt often wear a jacket or vest. There are also slim checked trousers trews. It may seem that there is no variety in the traditional clothing of the Scots, but the secret lies in the fabric, its color and the color of its stripes indicate which clan this person belongs to.
