Teacher: Do you know what great event awaits us this summer?

KAZAN is the capital of the 45th WorldSkills Competition! You could already experience how actively our city is preparing for this event.

Do you know what the WorldSkills International is?

Its goal is to show how important skills are in achieving economic growth and personal success. Every 2 years, WorldSkills International holds a world competition in professional skills. In 2019, the ancient city of Kazan with 1,000 year history will host the participants of WorldSkills Competition. This event will be held for the first time in Russia.

A preparation week from 21 to 27 January has been launched. It is a part of Worldskills Kazan 2019 Competition. The project «ONE SCHOOL – ONE COUNTRY» is an exchange programme that brings students and Worldskills Member countries together to share each other’s cultures, traditions and values.

The motto of WorldSkills Kazan 2019 Competition is Skills For the Future. It expresses the main goal of WorldSkills – to make our world a better place with the help of professional skills.

The central graphic element of the logo is a hand, it is expressed by five strong lines representing the youth of all countries, reaching out for new skills. The year and the name of the host city are given below it.

The mascots of this Competition are two young masters – a boy Almaz and a girl Altyn. How are the names of these children translated from Tatar? What do they mean? (The names are translated as “diamond” and “gold”, thus symbolizing professional excellence).

2. Introduction to the history of WorldSkills movement

  1. On 10 August 2015, at the WorldSkills General Assembly in San Paulo (Brazil), Russia won the right to host the WorldSkills Competition in 2019. It will be 45th WorldSkills Competition in Kazan which will be staged from 22 to 27 August 2019.

  2. WorldSkills is an international organization that inspires young people to develop a passion for skills and pursuing excellence, through competitions and promotions. WorldSkills was founded in 1950 and brings together 80 Member countries and regions

  3. It will have over 1,500 competitors and over 1,600 experts, more than 3500 volunteers, 1300 media representatives.

  4. , 5) The venue of the WorldSkills Kazan 2019 is Kazan Expo, new world-class exhibition centre. A land plot of 74.8 hectares located near the Kazan International Airport has been allocated for construction (the area of used land plot is 62 hectares).

  1. Not far from Kazan Expo there is the WorldSkills Village, in which they will have a comfortable stay during the Competition.

  2. Also, guests can visit the Culture SkillsPark, where they will be introduced to the traditional crafts, arts and habits of the Russian people. The WorldSkills community will have an unforgettable competitions and will visit the hospitable Kazan, which will give a lot of bright impressions and ensure comfort and safety.

  3. The previous WorldSkills Competition 2017 took place in Abu Dhabi, UAE. This country handed over the WorldSkills flag to our country, which visited space, then travelled across Russia and Tatarstan, and is in Kazan now.

  4. The Opening Ceremony is held on the 22 August and the Closing Ceremony is on the 27 August.

  • When did Russia officially join WorldSkills International? (In May 2012, Russia officially joined WorldSkills International. Different nationaities and cultures are coexisting peacefully in the borders of this counrty. Russia is famous for its achievements and scientific development)

  • Which country passed the Competition flag to our country? (United Arab Emirates). The previous WorldSkills Competition 2017 took place in Abu Dhabi, UAE. This country handed over the WorldSkills flag to our country, which visited space, then travelled across Russia and Tatarstan, and is in Kazan now.

5. Who are volunteers?

Teacher: Imagine, 3,500 volunteers from Russia and other countries will be involved in the WorldSkills Kazan 2019 for more than 20 functional areas. The major part of them will be students and pupils of the Republic of Tatarstan. Why do you think a person wants to be a volunteer?

There are a lot of pupils who are going to work as volunteers at the Worldskills competion. They gained experience while working at the World Cup last summer.

(Learn to communicate, make many friends, improve English skills, meet famous professional community experts, WorldSkills champions, make new acquaintances with foreigners and learn how they live in their countries, see new places, try themselves in adult life, etc.). Tell us about your experience.
