Type of Software Used In Automobile Industry
Software has become an integral part of automotives. Automotive software solutions enhance safety, performance and driving experience. There is a wide range of automotive software including entertainment, safety and navigation software among others. To optimize efficiency, software developers and automotive makers must work together to develop functional hardware and software systems.
Software has become an integral part of many systems across various industries. It has become an integral part of the automotive industry. There are diverse software in the market ranging from auto mechanical software, auto drive software, connectivity software, entertainment and mapping software among others.
The automotive industry is going towards an era where cars will communicate to each other and to drivers. These advancements in technology have challenged automotive makers to incorporate automotive software solutions that will offer greater utility and convenience to their customers.
Types of automotive software solutions
1. Autopilot software
Automakers are working towards manufacturing vehicles that can be fully self-driven or partially self-driven. The fully autopilot software are in development stages for commercial use. Once launched, all you will do as a driver is sit back and tell your car where you want to go.
The software will analyze the possible routes you can use, and figure out the optimal route. It will manage driving at the roundabouts and intersections, control speed and indicators as appropriate. This automotive software solution will allow for efficient driving both in long distance and short trips.
2. Navigation software
Navigation software have been common in vehicles in the last decade. This type of software have almost become a must-have in any car. They allow you to find direction to your desired destination.
Typically, the software is embedded in a satellite navigation device that determines the current position of your car in relation to your destination. When looking for a navigation software solution, automotive software developers and automotive makers should work together to build one that is intuitive and offers seamless navigation experience to the driver.
3. Entertainment software
Entertainment has become a must have in many vehicles in the last decade. It is comprised of both hardware and software that provide audio and video entertainment. In car entertainment has come along way from days of radio cassettes to the modern ones that offer Bluetooth connectivity, Wi-Fi and hands free control.
It has also enabled smartphone connection to the car for video chatting, web browsing and using social media while driving. In car entertainment, systems incorporate software that allow for Wi-Fi hotspots or tethering to enable internet surfing. The internet connectivity makes it possible for you to stream music online, create playlists and remotely connect your smartphone to the car.
4. Car safety software
Car safety software are designed to enhance car and road safety. They incorporate safety features to prevent collisions and accidents by notifying the driver and at times taking control of the vehicle. The adaptive features offered by safety software include automated lighting, automated braking, showing blinds pots and assisted reversing. While some automakers build in these features in their vehicles, others are available as add-ons.
Automotive software solutions are fast growing in the automotive industry. Developers are creating more advanced systems while customers are demanding intuitive software to enhance convenience and safety. For automotive software to work well, they require hardware support. Therefore, both software developers and automotive makers must work hand in hand to create powerful and easy to integrate systems.
