Mickey Mouse
Mickey Mouse is a well-known cartoon character. The Walt Disney Company celebrates his birth as November 18, 1928. Mickey Mouse was created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks, a famous American cartoonist, and voiced by Walt Disney himself. At first Mickey was one of many characters in animated cartoons. He was simply a peaceful (мирный) little mouse, but soon he became one of the most recognizable (признанный) symbols in the world and was chosen as an icon for the Walt Disney Company.
Mickey Mouse was born in Walt Disney’s imagination early in 1928 on a train ride from New York to Los Angeles. Amazingly, Walt Disney got the inspiration (вдохновение) for Mickey Mouse from his old pet mouse he used to have on his farm. In 1925, Hugh Harman drew some sketches of mice around a photograph of Walt Disney. These inspired Ub Iwerks to create a new mouse character for Disney. The original name of the character was "Mortimer Mouse", but Disney's wife convinced (убедила) her husband to change it. The character was called Mickey Mouse.
Like many popular characters, Mickey Mouse has starred in video games, in electronic talking games and interactive books. Mickey has become the chief (главный) host (хозяин) of the theme park Disneyland. Many television programs have been centered around Mickey. His name is sometimes used even for political purposes. When people don’t want to vote for any of the candidates, they write Mickey Mouse instead of a candidate’s name in the paper.
