The history and heritage of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland would take a lifetime to explore. Thousands of historic sites attract millions of visitors: the Royal palaces, abbeys, museums and cathedrals of London and the regions; the Tower of London; Warwickshire, Carmarthen, Fyvie and Beaumaris castles, among many wonderful castles; many fine country houses; Hadrian’s Wall and Offa’s Dyke; the Georgian crescents and Roman bathing facilities of Bath; the original Cutty Sark and earlier 16th century Mary Rose sailing ships; prehistoric Stonehenge and countless cromlechs, standing stones and other ancient sites; whisky distilleries in Scotland; tin and lead mines in Cornwall.
Britain is strewn with ruins of castles, rubble from the centuries of her existence. Castles are tangible relics of a remarkable past, a lengthy heritage etched in stone, as well as with the blood and sweat of those who built, labored, fought, and died in their shadow. Ruins stir up in us a profound awareness of those past lives. Castles have a timelessness that is awe-inspiring. That they have endured centuries of warfare and the effects of weather is a testimony to the creativity and power of their medieval owners. How many of us will have such long-lasting success? As with gardens castles have had innumerable books written about them quoting design, styles, ages and so on. I think that one or two notes are helpful in distinguishing the various types and the logical development. The castles that we use as our standard are those built between the 11th and 16th centuries in Great Britain and Northern Europe. It is not astonishing that old castles are attracting a lot of tourists.
A lot of people in our time speak about ghosts, witches and other unknown facts. According to the last news there are a lot of ghosts in the old castles especially in Great Britain. And as I am fond of English and paranormal facts I decide to choose a topic if my report “Castles with ghosts in Great Britain”.
The ghosts hinting at transformation it was informed also on cases some kind of “prophetic dreams” when dead person was in a dream to a member of that family in which to the dead can be was born and receive, thus, the new corporal embodiment. Dreams such rather usual at Tlingit and representatives of other tribes of the North American Indians living in northwest of continent, and also at the Turk, Burmans and inhabitants of Thailand. It is known, that sometimes in Burma or Thailand the child finds out any pieces of memoirs on the former lives and speaks, that remembers, how he sent future family " prophetic dream " about forthcoming occurrence. Sometimes (the truth, it is rare enough) the child can appear in the form of a ghost of future mother.

The ghosts in Leap Castle are angry specters...and with good reason.
Within its walls lie secrets of a dark and deadly past. Over 400 years ago, during High Mass, a priest was murdered by his own brother in what is now called the "bloody chapel".
The dungeon was also a source of excruciating pain and unendurable misery for tortured prisoners as they waited for the sweet release of death. With such notorious implements as thumbscrews, the rack, and the iron maiden, there was no end to the pain this den of misery subjected its denizens to.
Around the year 1900, workmen hired to clean out Leap Castle pulled up the drop floor of the dungeon and discovered human skeletons piled on top of each other as though they were tossed in like cordwood. Death was everywhere in Leap Castle. And now, it lingers in the very living stone. If the bizarre, the frightful, and the inexplicable do not dissuade you, Leap Castle is the destination where you can test your mettle against all things that go bump in the night.
Ghosts stories What story would be complete without a haunted castle?
Windsor Castle is one of the many homes of the present Queen of England, several of her royal ancestors, and "non-royal" spirits, one of whom, according to legend was an ancient Saxon hunter named Herne, who was renowned thought out the area for his outstanding hunting abilities.
One story tells of Herne, as one of the Royal keepers for King Richard II (1367-1400), who was hated by the other keepers for his extraordinary skills. One day the King was in danger of being trampled by an incensed stag while hunting and how Herne putting himself between the King and the stag was mortally wounded.
In the last 250 years, hundreds of people have claimed to have seen his spirit, often accompanied by his pack of hounds. In the early 1860's the tree from which he was found hanging, was cut down, and Queen Victoria kept the oak logs for her fire "To help kill the ghost". Her plan didn't work however.
Other legends tell of witchcraft and suicide, and a demonic horned being upon whose appearance brings illness and misfortune to all who see him, especially the Royal family. He can be seen in Windsor castle’s gardens with "his trademark stag’s head." King Henry VIII has been seen walking the hallways of Windsor Castle. His footsteps, along with agonizing moans, have been heard by many guests of the castle.
One of his wives, Anne Boleyn, has been seen standing at the window in the Dean’s Cloister, as well as, Queen Elizabeth I. Queen Elizabeth I has also been seen in the Royal Library. She has been seen walking from one room to another. She is always dressed in a black gown with a black lace shawl draped over her shoulders.
King Charles I has been seen many times in the library and the Canon’s house, and although he was beheaded during the English Revolution, his ghost is seen as a whole. It is said he looks exactly like his portraits.
King George III had many bouts with mental deterioration. During these times he was kept out of the public’s eye. He can be seen looking out the windows located below the Royal Library where he was confined during the recurrence of his illness.
The first Duke of Buckingham, Sir George Villiers, is said to haunt one of the bedrooms of Windsor castle. And many spirits haunt the Long Walk, one of whom is a young solider who shot himself after, while on his guard watch, saw marble statues moving "of their own accord." His ghost has seen by other soldiers on guard duty afterwards.
The ghost of jeweler lady
The ghost of the jeweler lady wants someone to kiss her.
She wears a rich dress decorated with emeralds and sapphires: a beautiful
geometric pattern of blue and green. Her delicate hands gently caress a
diamond-flecked onyx as starry black and precious as her eyes. She looks
directly at you, and a thin smile plays on her lips. The squint of her
eyes is definitely promising. The jeweler lady looks like she is begging
for a loving embrace and a passionate kiss, which is a hard thing to do
since she happens to be ethereal.
Culzean Castle
Culzean Castle is located on the Ayrshire coast in the west of Scotland. The castle, as it is today, was built in 1777, but the original building was built in 1165. The castle was owned by the Сlan Kennedy for 800 years, and is now owned by the National Trust of Scotland. There are underground tunnels connected to the castle, which were allegedly used by smugglers. The castle allegedly has several active ghosts.
“We began the evening by doing a walkround of the entire castle with psychic medium, Scott. Scott did not know where our investigation was going to take place and was brought to the location by one of our investigators. He managed to come up with lots of interesting information and also some names and dates. Much of the information that Scott gave we could corroborate using our knowledge of the history of the Castle and past sightings. As well as filming the walkround using digital camcorders, we took temperature and EMF readings and still digital photographs in all areas of the castle. One of our photos seems to show strange red rings appearing in the Armoury during our walk round.
As the Earl’s Bedroom is supposedly the most active room in the castle, we decided to set up some locked off equipment. We set up digital camcorders and voice recorders and left the area. We managed to capture some strange light anomalies and we also picked up voices on our voice recorders, the voices seemed to be whispering even as we were talking to each other (Click here to listen to one of the files). During our investigation, we split into two teams and both teams spent some time doing vigils in the Earl’s bedroom. We did manage to capture many voices on the voice recorders and some of our team members did see something moving towards the bed, but we did not catch this on any of our camcorders, there were also some very sharp temperature fluctuations. Later in the evening, we spent some more time in this room with our medium, which picked up on a couple, a man and a woman that he felt was active in this room. He came up with the names Henry and Mary. Towards the end of our investigation Paul locked off another camcorder in the Earl’s Bedroom for 1 hr approx and on play back has managed to capture some amazing light anomalies moving around the room (See video files at top of page).
We decided to try a chance in the State room, led by our psychic medium. Some members of our team experienced some unusual temperature changes during the chance. We also captured a voice on one of our voice recorders. Scott picked up on a man called James who seemed to be getting increasingly agitated with us; he was upset at our presence in this room as his mother had died here. This was supported when we played the contents of our voice recorder back and heard a voice saying “You fuckin’ bastard”
We managed to capture some light anomalies in the still photographs taken in the kitchen. During our earlier walkround, Scott picked up on a small child in the kitchen area. Later, while we were investigating this area, he picked up on a young boy, about 9 years old, who had been caught stealing meat from the kitchen. He also picked up on the year 1785, perhaps to do with the young boy.
Nothing was captured on our camcorders. EMF readings and temperature readings were normal.
The team spent some time in the study, during which we tried a chance. We did not capture anything significant on the camcorders or still photographs. EMF readings and temperature readings were normal. Scott our psychic medium did pick up on a woman called Elizabeth and her children, and a feeling of isolation or separation. He also felt the year 1876 was significant.
We spent some time in the round room, one of the reception rooms upstairs. There was a noticeably happy atmosphere in this room. Scott picked up on a feeling of celebration and happiness in this room. He also picked up on a woman sitting on a chair looking out of the window. During a vigil, some of our team noticed flashing lights around one of the pictures in the room. We decided that it would be a good idea to have the entire team spend some time in this room. During this time, many of the team saw lights around the painting, but unfortunately nothing was captured on any of our camcorders which we found bizarre as there had many been quite a few witnesses to these lights.
Culzean Castle is a fabulous location that has had many reported paranormal sightings and experiences. We would love to return at some point in the future to carry out another investigation.
We would like to say thank you to Culzean Castle for the opportunity to investigate such a fantastic location, for their warm welcome and excellent hospitality. This is just a brief summary of our full Culzean Castle report”.
Conclusion So, we speak about ghosts and castles. Let’s answer some usual questions.
What is a spirit?
A ghost or apparition, (we prefer to use the term spirit) has a very wide definition. No one can say for any certainty what a ghost, apparition or spirit is, at best one can only theorize. Our own theory is that a spirit is another name for a type of energy unique to all life, for example similar to each individual having their own DNA profile.
When life comes to an end, this energy leaves the body and enters a dimension that is beyond our knowledge. One thing we do know is that energy cannot be destroyed, only changed, and if one accepts this, then we must ask where does it go and what happens to it.
It is this uncertainty that is the driving force behind researchers to seek an explanation by scientific based study of this unknown dimension. The aforementioned dimension is beyond the knowledge of the orthodox scientific establishment, many of who will ridicule researchers of the paranormal and disbelieve those who have had first hand experiences. Accordingly many people who have had some sort of paranormal experience prefer to keep it to themselves for fear of ridicule and being called a crank.
In time gone by, people thought the world was flat and that if a ship sailed too far out it would simply fall off! It was thanks to the few progressive thinking, open-minded explorers of the day that in the end, proved otherwise. Before they did so the skeptics of the day thought they were crackpots too. In our experience, about 95% of purported haunting and ghostly activity are found to have a logical explanation, but what about the other 5%?
We are inclined to think there are three major types of spirit activity as outlined below.
Types of Spirit
SPIRITS
A spirit is an entity that is on the lowest energy level and therefore unable to materialize. It usually makes itself known by creating a cold spot or a cool breeze regardless of the general overall temperature. Even if all doors and windows are closed tight you will still feel the breeze or cold spot
Another means of letting you know they are around is by a sweet smell like flowers, especially roses, and of fruit. You can also sense a spirits presence; for example you may feel that something is in the room or feel you are being watched when no one is there.
GHOST OR APPARITION
The energy of a deceased person we believe remains the same after death, for example if an individual was kind and gentle when alive, the energy will remain so and accordingly if unkind and grumpy the same will apply.
This type of spirit is of a higher energy level so can therefore manifest itself. Apparitions tend to be attracted to places rather than specific people. They seem to be in some sort of time-warp inasmuch that they may seem to walk through walls that was once but no longer there. They may appear to walk on a lower level, as was the original floor height, and seem to be repetitive on their movements. Whatever happens, this category of spirit will never do you any harm. However it is unwise to give it any attention for if you do there is a possibility that it will become more prevalent by using your energy, just like recharging a car battery when it is low. Some researchers class this type of activity as a recording type ghost.
ENTITY OR POLTERGEIST
This type of spirit, commonly known as a Poltergeist, has the highest level of energy and literally feeds on a host's energy and zaps away. This type of manifestation is usually very intense, noisy, evil and destructive, it can weaken its host and try it's best to possess them. It is usually accompanied by an extremely unpleasant smell, often like rotting flesh, vegetables or a sewer type smell. We feel that this type of spirit or energy originates from those who in life were of a very violent or had an evil nature. Poltergeists seem to be brought about by unpleasant atmosphere and where stress levels are extremely high such as a very argumentative household, a period of life when there is a lot of unusual stresses and worries. This type of entity usually attaches to children, adolescents and sometimes the elderly. It takes them over and forces then to do its bidding by projection. Fortunately the haunting or activity is fairly short lived, usually anything from a few weeks to a few months although on one or two extremely rare occasions it has gone on for far longer. There are those who are inclined to think that poltergeist activity is a product of the people involved and it is their psychological situation that is causing it. Then there are those who are inclined to think that it is a spirit that operates through a person, similar to that of a medium. In truth, as yet nobody knows.
What type of activity can I have?
SPIRIT
Spirits unlike Poltergeists are not noisy, are not distinctive and do not take on form. They appear to be more attracted to people rather than places. Never worry as they will do you no harm and try not to show them any attention, which they want. If you do show attention they will draw energy from you and will therefore hang around longer.
APPARITION
Apparitions or Ghosts will not harm you and are not usually disruptive. They are like lost souls, which is probably what they are. Like spirits they can bring smells, and sometimes instead of full materialization you may see a light out of the corner of your eye. Items such as jewellery and other personal effects may be moved, or disappear and reappear often in a different place. Small items such as coins, etc can appear out of nowhere. Other factors are as follows:
