Albert Einstein: the greatest scientist of the 20 th century

• Albert Einstein was born in Germany in 1879.

• He was a very slow learner. As a boy Albert was very unhappy at school. His teachers treated him badly because they consider him not very clever. His marks were bad

• In 1896 Albert went to Zurich to study at one of the best technical universities.

• There his abilities in maths and physics began to show

• Mileva Maric, Hungarian student at his university has become his wife in 1903. They had children . After they divorced Einstein married his cousin , Elsa

• 1905 is known as his “Miracle year”-he published three important essays including one on the Special Theory of Relativity. Later Einstein would write the Theory of Gravity and the General Theory of Relativity. Soon he would become a world-wide celebrity

• In1921 Einstein was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics

• Although Albert Einstein was world- famous, he suffered a lot of abuse because he was Jewish. Eventually he decided to leave Germany. In 1933 he went to America where he lived for the rest of his life.

• Einstein achieved so much in his lifetime.

He died on April 18th , 1955 in New Jersey, leaving behind a new way for us to look at the world.

• Without his theories lasers, computers, space travel and many other things that are familiar today would never have developed
