Amur tiger
one of the endangered species
Amur Tiger or Siberian tiger, or a Siberian tiger or Amur tiger - one of the smallest tiger subspecies, the most northern tiger. Included in the Red Book of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and in the Red Book of the Russian Federation.
The area of this tiger is concentrated in a protected area on the south-east Russia, on the banks of the Amur and Ussuri rivers in the Khabarovsk and Primorsky regions. Most of all Amur tigers common in the foothills of the Sikhote-Alin in Lazovsky district of Primorsky Krai.
Normal adult male in nature, weighs in the range of 180-220 kg, the height at the withers in 90-106 cm. However, Bengal tigers living in some of the national parks of India, now can significantly exceed the size of the Amur. Although, historically, these two subspecies of tigers were probably still close to each other in size, and reduction in the size of Amur tigers is directly linked to human activity
This is the only subspecies of tiger, whose representatives are on their bellies five-centimeter layer of fat that protects against the freezing wind at extremely low temperatures. The body is elongated, flexible, rounded head, rather short legs, a long tail.
In the wild
At the end of the XIX century to annually produce up to 100 animals, and in 1912 - about 60 individuals. Livestock predator decreased to about 1940, when, presumably, only 30-40 individuals remained. In 1958-1959, it was considered about 100 individuals, in 1968 - 140, in 1978-200, including 8-10 individuals in the Sikhote-Alin Reserve and about 15 adult tigers in Lazovsky reserve. Total in Russia for the year 1996, there were about 415-476 individuals.
In zoos
On the 20th February 2007 in zoos of the world contained more than 450 tigers in a while on 1 January 1979, there were 844 individuals
