Контрольная работа по теме «Школа, школьная жизнь, будущая профессия. Переписка с иностранными сверстниками»

Класс: 10

Exercise 1. Read the text and decide if the statements are TRUE or FALSE.

Going to university after finishing secondary school is a popular choice for many students, but it is not the only path to a successful career. In recent years, more and more young people are considering vocational education as a great alternative. Vocational schools and colleges offer courses that are directly related to specific jobs, such as IT specialist, electrician, chef, or graphic designer. Students spend less time on general subjects and more time on practical, hands-on training. This means they gain real work experience and are often ready to start their careers right after graduation. While a university degree provides deep theoretical knowledge, vocational training focuses on developing the specific skills that employers need right now. The choice between the two depends on a person's interests, learning style, and career goals.

  1. University is the only way to have a successful career.

  2. Vocational education focuses on practical training for specific jobs.

  3. Students at vocational schools spend most of their time on theoretical subjects.

  4. Vocational training can help graduates start working sooner.

  5. The text suggests that vocational education is better than university education.

Exercise 2. Match seven texts A—G with the appropriate titles. One of the titles is extra.

Titles:

  1. The Value of Vocational Training

  2. Exam Pressure

  3. A Future in Medicine

  4. Making Friends Through Exchange

  5. Learning from Role Models

  6. My Dream Job

  7. The Importance of Teamwork

  8. Problem-Solving at School

A. I've known I wanted to be a vet since I was a child. I love animals and want to help them. My favourite subjects are Biology and Chemistry because they are essential for university. I spend a lot of time volunteering at a local animal shelter to get experience. It's a lot of work, but I know it will be worth it to achieve my goal.

B. My school has a great pen-friend programme with a school in Japan. At first, I was nervous about writing to someone so far away. But my pen-friend, Yuki, is amazing! We write emails every month, and I've learned so much about Japanese culture. We're planning to meet in person next year if our families can save enough money.

C. I used to be terrible at Maths. I just couldn't understand the formulas. My teacher, Mr. Davison, noticed I was struggling. Instead of getting angry, he stayed after class to explain things differently. He showed me that Maths is like a puzzle that needs to be solved. Now, it's one of my favourite subjects, all thanks to his patience.

D. In our technology class, we were given a task to build a bridge using only spaghetti and glue. It seemed impossible! Our group had to discuss different designs, listen to each other's ideas, and work together to build it. Our bridge wasn't the strongest, but we learned that sharing ideas is the best way to solve a difficult problem.

E. My older cousin Sarah is a nurse. She works long hours and deals with stressful situations, but she always comes home with a smile. She says helping people feel better is the best feeling in the world. Listening to her stories makes me want to pursue a career in healthcare too. She is my biggest inspiration.

F. Not everyone wants to go to university, and that's okay! My brother is studying to be a web designer at a technical college. He doesn't have to write long essays like me. Instead, he learns by creating real websites for local businesses. He already has a job offer for when he finishes his course. It's the perfect path for him.

G. Last month we had our final exams, and the atmosphere at school was so tense. Everyone was stressed, carrying piles of textbooks and drinking lots of coffee. My best friend barely slept the whole week! I was worried about my History exam, but I tried to stay calm by making a revision plan. I'm just glad it's over for another year.
