В ritish traditions can be divided into the following groups :

• official holidays
• traditions in clothing
• royal traditions
• social traditions

Official Holidays

There are six public holidays in the UK. People do not go to work on these days.

• Christmas Day
• Good Friday
• Easter Monday
• Boxing Day
• Spring Bank Holiday the last Monday in May
• Late Summer Bank Holiday the last Monday in August.

Traditions in clothing

• In Britain as in other countries costumes and uniforms have a long history.
• Nowadays you can see men wearing top hats and tuxedos for special occasions.

The uniform of the Beefeaters at the Tower of London has not changed for centuries.

Bear hats of the Royal Guards have been worn for hundred of years too.

Royal traditions

• There are numerous royal traditions in Britain, some of them are ancient, others are contemporary.

Two birthdays of Queen Elizabeth: the real and "official“.On the official birthday of the Queen, there is a traditional ceremony called the "Trooping of the Colors ".

Social traditions

• The tradition of tea drinking ( five o’clock tea) .
• Saying "My house is my fortress" reflects the attitude of British to privacy .
• Love for gardening .
• The famous English lawn the history of which includes 300 years .

Why have British traditions been living for centuries?

• The British people are very conservative
• They are proud of their traditions and carefully observe them
• Have a penchant for ceremonies
• Century-old monarchical foundations contribute to the preservation of many traditions .
