1. Letterhead – заголовок бланка

Essential information about the company sending the letter: the name, sender’s address, telephone, e-mail address.

 

 2. Reference – ссылки (входящий/исходящий номер)

Printed below the letterhead.

 

Your ref. -  indicates the letter you refer to

Our ref. - indicates the letter to refer to when you reply

 

Consists of the initials of the person who signs the letter and those of the typist.

Sometimes other letters or figures are added according to the filing system (делопроизводство) of the company.

 

3. Date

Is written under the reference or on the same line but on the right.

Attention!

In Britain the date goes first, in the USA the month goes first.

10.02.15 stands for the 10th of February in Britain and the 2nd of October in the USA.

 

To avoid misunderstanding write in the following way:

10 February, 2015

February 10, 2015.

 

Th, rd, nd are old-fashioned, but are still widely used.

Comma before a year is unnecessary

  

4. Adressee’s Address – адрес получателя

(Inside address, Receiver’s address)

1. The addressee’s name (not necessary)

Mr. A.J.Fisher

2. The name of the firm

Great Furniture Ltd.

3. The building number, the name of the street

19 Hill Street

4. The name of the town or city, post code

 

UK: county name (if the town is small)

USA (state name after the name of the town)

London W1M 5RN

5. Country

5. Attention line is not necessary, if you know the person you are writing to.

  

6. Opening salutation – обращение (приветствие)

Neither too long nor too short, the right amount of information, logical.
