Chernyakhovsk -the town where I live.

Chernyakhovsk is the third largest town in Kaliningrad region after Kaliningrad and Sovetsk .

It is located in Eastern Prussia just in the center of Kaliningrad region.

It is 80 km from Kaliningrad. The population of Chernyakhovsk is more than 42,2 thousand people. The territory of Chernyakhovsk is 102 square km.

The town has a very nice geographical position. It is situated on the banks of the river Instruch , where rivers Instruch and Angrappa confluence forming the river Pregolya.

Chernyakhovsk is an old town . It was founded in 1336 as a fortress. This fortress was built by German knights. Later the settlement around the fortress got the status of a town and was called Insterburg. In 1944 the town was partly destroyed by English aviation. In

1945 Soviet soldiers entered the town and it became a Russian town. It was renamed into Chernyakhovsk , after Ivan Danilovich Chernyakhovsky, the Soviet General, the Hero of the Soviet Union.

There is a monument to Chernyakhovsky in the center of the square not far from a railway station.

Now Chernyakhovsk is a modern town with a lot of green parks and quiet squares It has specific arсhitecture :German and Soviet. There are many old German buildings, cathedrals and castles such as: Insterbur Castle , Georgenburg Castle, Bismark Tower , Svyato-Mikhailovskaya Church. The history of Insterburg is connected with the names of some famous people who were there: Barklai- de -Tolli, Banapart Napoleon, Immanuil Kant, Peter the Great, Frida Yung, I.D Chernyakhovsky and others.

Our town has some monuments: the monument to Barklay-De–Tolli, a monument stone to Peter the Great, a monument to the heroes of the Second World War, monuments to

I.D Chernyakhovsky and P. I. Chaikovsky, memorial Boards to Napoleon Banapart and Frida Yung- a German poetess.

Nowadays Chernyakhovsk is a cozy green town with a lot of trees and flowers. The town has a developed infrastructure. There are some plants producing meat, fish, sweets , agricultural fertilizer, furniture , alcohol drinks … There is one of the best horse raising plants in Georgenburg . The main treasure of our region is the Baltic sea. The seacoast of the Baltic sea is the best place for rest, people like to spend their days off there.

Insterburg has its coat of arms There is a bear on the white board with initials G.F( Georg Fridrih). At the top there is a hunter with a horn.
