А kitchen is an important part of a home. It is a place where the whole family gather s together to prepare and eat dinner.

Very often children help their parents in the kitchen but they should remember that it can have some dangers.

So it's important to know how to be safe in the kitchen.

Safety tips in the kitchen

Keeping clean

Storing food

Preparing food

Always wash your hands with soap before you touch any food.

Don’t let pets in the kitchen.

Clean the work surfaces well to keep bacteria away!

Wash plates and cups in hot soapy water!

Wash fruit and vegetables well.

Use sharp knives and chop very carefully.

Use different knives for cutting raw meat, bread and other food.

Put on an apron before you start

cooking.

Keep food at safe temperatures from bacteria.

Bacteria can’t live in the cold, but they love warm kitchens!

Always keep meat, cooked food and dairy products like milk, cheese and yoghurt in the fridge.

Don’t put other food next to raw meat!

Now look at your answers in ex.1 again. What do you think you can change next time you help in the kitchen?

Home task(ex.4 p.103)

Use the information of the lesson and the information from the Internet to make a list of dos and don’ts for the kitchen. Make a poster called “Be safe in the kitchen”.
