The Assumption Cathedral

The cathedral was erected in memory of the heroic defense of Smolensk in 1609-1611 on the spot of the former cathedral bearing the same name in the 12th century. The Assumption Cathedral lies on Sobornaya Hill. The construction began in 1677 under the guidance of the sculptor A. Korolkov, in 1732, A. Shedel was the next architect to work on the cathedral, but the building was completed only in 1772.

The fortress wall lower Eagle tower

F.S. Kon designed this remarkable defensive construction in the end of the 16th century. Under his guidance, the fortress was built in 1596 -1602 by Boris Godunov's order.

The monument with eagles

Architected by N.S. Shutsman and S.R. Nadolsky, the monument lies in the Heroes' Memory Garden. It was founded on 6 August 1912 on the days of the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Patriotic War and was built in honour of the reunion of the two Russian armies under command of M.B.Barclay de Tolly and P.I. Bagration.

The monument to Mikhail Glinka

It is situated in the eastern part of Mikhail Glinka Park (formerly Blonie Park). The monument was erected in honour of the founder of Russian classical music in 1885. The sculptor was A. R. Bock.

The Eternal Flame was costructed to honour the heroes of World War II and it is a review to all living beings about the heroic deeds of our nation.

The Church of Saint Barbara

The church lies on Kashena, 20a. It is attached to the church of Saints Peter and Paul (the mid-12 th century) in 1753-1757. The stone fence was built in the 17th century.

Fyodor Kon's monument

It was erected in honour of a Russian architect and a military builder of the 16th -17th centuries. Designed by A.K. Anipko, O. Komov the monument was put up on October Revolution Street, near Gromovaya Tower.

The monument 1812

The monument is situated in the Municipal Park of Culture and Rest, not far from the main entrance. Architected by Antony Adaminy, it was unveiled on 5 November 1841. The monument was erected in honour of the battle of Smolensk on 4-5 August 1812.

The monument to Tyorkin

The monument was put up on Smirnov Square in front of the "Smolensk" hotel. Architected by Sergeev A.G. it was unveiled on 9 March 1995.
