«Лингвострановедческий урок "Ancient Britain". Рабочий лист с творческим заданием»

Read about tribes and nations who lived in ancient Britain. The Picts
The Picts lived in the northern part of Britain, in what is now Scotland. They are famous for painting or tattooing their bodies with strange designs. They also built forts and lived in small villages made of wood or stone. The Picts were good fighters. They hunted animals like deer and wild pigs and gathered berries and nuts to eat.

Nobody knows what language the Picts spoke.

The Celts
The Celts lived in many parts of Britain. They were brave fighters and good story-tellers. They had many myths and legends and their stories often featured brave heroes, magical creatures, and great battles. They loved scary stories, too – Halloween, or Samhain, is a Celtic holiday marking the beginning of winter. The Celts decorated their clothes with beautiful designs and made fine gold jewellery.

The Celts spoke Celtic languages. Nowadays, Celtic languages are spoken in Wales, Ireland and some parts of Scotland.

The Romans
In 43 AD, the Romans, led by Emperor Claudius, came to Britain. They brought new ways of living to the island. The Romans built great roads, large buildings, and even public baths – they were like modern spa centres, with massage rooms and swimming pools. They even had fast food! One popular fast food dish was meatballs.

The Romans brought new foods like grapes, olives, and wine. Roman soldiers lived in forts and helped protect the land. They also built Hadrian’s Wall, a
giant wall across the north of Britain to keep out the Picts and other enemies.

The Romans spoke Latin. The words city, capital, family, religion, music, education, art, civilisation, all come from Latin.
