Margaret Thatcher-the first woman to serve as Prime Minister - reformed Britain.

Margaret Thatcher was born on 13 October 1925 in Grantham, Lincolnshire. She graduated in chemistry from the University of Oxford. While still a student, Margaret became chair of the Oxford University Conservative party Association. In 1959, she was elected to the lower house of the British Parliament, and in 1979, she headed the country's conservative government.   In 1979, Margaret Thatcher became the first and so far only woman to serve as Prime Minister of Great Britain. She served three terms in this position, the longest of any Prime Minister since 1827. She was also the first female Prime Minister of a European state.
