SYMBOLS of RUSSIA

One symbol is the Russian national flag. It has three stripes: white, blue and red. These colours have always been symbolic in Russia: white – noble and sincere , blue – honest and devoted , red has always meant love and bravery.

Another symbol of Russia is the birch tree.

The State Emblem of the Russian Federation represents the image of the gold two-headed eagle placed on a red heraldic board; over an eagle - Peter the Great three historical crowns (over heads - two small and over them - one big size); in paws of an eagle - a scepter and power; on a breast of an eagle on a red board - the horseman amazing with a spear of a dragon.

MOSCOW is the capitol.

Chronicles first mentioned Moscow in 1147. It was a little settlement at the top of a hill looking over the Moskva river, a settlement founded by Prince Yuri Dolgoruky.

Today its population is about 9000000 people.

Russia is the largest country of the wold. It lies on a huge territory from the coast of the Pacific Ocean to the centre of Europe. Its climate is different.

Russia is a very rich country. There are many rivers, lakes, mountains, forests and fields.

Lake Baikal is the deepest freshwater lake on the Earth. It is 1741 metres deep.

The Altai Mountains lie south of Lake Baikal.

The Caucasus Mountains are between the Black and Caspian sea

The Ural Mountain form a natural border between Europe and Asia.
