I am glad to see you again. I hope you are feeling well today and I think everybody is ready for the lesson. Today we continue speaking about books. Our lesson is “The pleasure of reading”. Look at the blackboard. You can see the portraits of famous British and American writers. We shall visit a British bookshop today. We’ll speak about books a lot. So, let’s start. Now, let’s see what Lora Dunet, an English poetess, thinks about books. Read her poem and say if you agree with her. What is a book? A book is pages, pictures and words A book is animals, people and birds A book is stories of queens and kings Poems and songs – so many things Curled in a corner where I can hide With a book I can journey far and wide Though it’s only paper from end to end A book is a very special friend. A book is a very special friend. Do you agree with her? So, most of us like reading. What do you think is more popular today – reading books or surfing the Internet? At the previous lesson we divided into three groups: the first group - people who read a lot, not only books on Literature but for pleasure as well. The second group – average readers. The third group – those who are not fond of books. Most of us like reading. Now we are going to visit a book fair.Look at the portraits of these writers. Have you ever heard their names? And do you know their works? Let’s check. Make up sentences. Now we go to one of the British bookshops and its shop- assistant will recommend us a book. Your task is to answer the questions: What book does she recommend? Why does she recommend it? Listen to it once again and get more details. Post-listening task Find the answers to the questions in the text. Read out the extracts from the text. Let’s have a rest. Just close your eyes and imagine yourself a main character in one of your favourite books. And now we’ll look at a dialogue in the same book shop. Sit at the computers. Look the phrases are mixed. Put them in the correct order. Let’s check the dialogues and get the points. Let’s role-play it. Great! Now we have an example of a dialogue in a bookshop. Try to make up your own dialogues on the same topic. Your home task will be to learn the dialogues and role- play them. Go to the shop and buy a book. You have the cards with the questions.
