Bonfire Night”

Bonfire Night: a story in English about the custom of the British to burn an effigy at the stake on the night of November 5

Narrator: Bonfire night is on the fifth of November. It is a very interesting night for English boys and girls. On that evening they make bonfires and have fireworks. Some days before bonfire night they make the guy. 
They make him of sticks and straw and then put men’s old clothes on him. They put an old hat on his head and old gloves on the sticks that are his hands. 
When the bonfire is ready, children, or their parents, put the guy on the bonfire and then light it. 

Scene 1
Narrator: Tom and Kate ran out of school.

Tom: It is bonfire night, come on home as quickly as you can

Narrator: The brother and sister ran to the bus stop. Soon a bus came along the road. It stopped at the bus stop. Tom and Kate got on the bus.

Kate: We’ll soon be home now
Narrator: The bus stopped not far from their house. Tom and





Kate got off the bus and ran home. They ran into the house. 
Narrator: Mother was at the table

Tom: Is tea ready?

Mother: It will be ready soon. 
Narrator: When tea was over, Tom went to look at their guy. The guy was big and fat. 
Tom: We’ll put the guy on the bonfire when Father comes home. 
Mother: He will be home soon.



Scene 2
Mother: Put your coats on, the wind is very cold.
Narrator: Tom and Kate put on their coats and went out to look for Father. They went down the road to the bus stop. Soon the bus came and Father got off.

Kate: Here he is

Tom: Have you bought the fireworks?
Father: Yes, here they are.

Narrator: They all went into the house to get the guy. They took the guy into the garden. Father put him on the bonfire. Then he lit the fire.
Tom: Can we have the fireworks now?
Father: Yes.
Narrator: He took the fireworks out of the boxes and lit two of them. Soon the garden was bright with lights. The wind blew and blew.
Father: Look! My hat!





(The wind blew his hat into the bonfire).
Tom: It looks so funny! “It is not very funny,” said Father, “now I must buy a new hat."
(Then Tom ran up to Father.)
Tom: Look! Look! The shed is on fire.
(Father ran over to the shed.)
Father: We must find help.
(So Mother ran off to call the fire-brigade. Tom and Kate ran into the house with Father. They got buckets of water to put out the fire.)
Father: Hurry up, Tom! The fire is growing."


Scene 3

Narrator: They brought more water in the buckets, but the wind blew and blew. The wind blew the fire over the house.
Father: Hurry, hurry, we must stop the fire. The fire-brigade will come soon. Mother: The fire-brigade will be here soon.

(Tom stopped and listened).

Tom: The fire-brigade is coming

He ran out to meet them. The firemen jumped down. With hoses in their hands they ran to the shed.
Fireman 1: We are in time.
Fireman 2: The fire is not very big, but the house is on fire now

(The firemen turned their hoses on the house and soon the fire was out. Then they went to look at the bonfire.)

Fireman 1: The bonfire is out too.

(Father went up to the firemen.)

Father: Thank you very much for your help.
Fireman 2: Good that we were in time

(they went back up the street.)

Narrator: In 1773 the Parliament of England passed the Tea Law . It imposed an additional tax on tea brought in from England.

Protests erupted in several cities after the law was passed . Protesters were able to capture several ships of the British East India Company .

16 Deсember of 1773

Henry went to the bulletin board .

Henry : Oh my god ! They already take almost all taxes from us ,so now we still to pay for tea ! If it counues ,then we will have to pay for what we walk .

Stranger : Do not say that , otherwise they will hear and do so .

Henry smiled : Okay , I’ll go to work to port .

Henry : What is it ? Looks like a riot .

Going to the port he stopped .

People were outraged . The crowd stood on the dock , and sailors merchants ,porters and ordinary onlookers looked at them .

Man from the crowd 1: We won’t take this anymore !

Man from the crowd 2: Freedom to the people !

Man from the crowd 3: Why do we have to pay so mach !?

A young guy climbed onto the box . Everyone immediately looked at him

Guy : Brothers and Sisters ! Compatriots ! Americans ! We mast njt obey England ! The day will come when America will be free , and we will be free! So Let’s bring this day closer ! Enough to endure !

A ship has arrived at the pier . And it was a load of East India Company tea .

The crowd took the ship to the enbodiment. People are triumphed !

Guy :Let them drink this tea themselves ! We don’t need it!

People ! YES ! YES ! Glory to America ! Glory to American ! Give freedom ! Freedom ! Freedom ! Let them appreciate these tea !Boxes and bales flew overboard .This event was called the Boston Tea Party . It marked the beginning of the struggle for independence in America .

STORY TELLER: Three days before Christmas. Typical English family. Mother is cooking in the kitchen, father is reading the newspaper. Their son, small Gregory is writing post cards with the best wishes for his friends.

GREGORY: It`s for Martin, he4 likes cars. *вертит в руках открытку с машинками*

GREGORY: and it`s for Megan, she likes cartoons *рассматривает открытку с персонажами мультиков

GREGORY`S FATHER: Good job Gregory. And have you already written your wishes to Father Christmas?

GREGORY: Of course I have. But when will he come to us?

GREGORY`S MOTHER: Oh, don`t worry! He will come soon and bring you your gifts.

GREGORY: I`d better go to sleep, because tomorrow I will discuss our Christmas with Megan and Martin, my true friends.

GREGORY`S FATHER: It`s a good idea! an hour in the morning is worth two in the evening!





GREGORY`S MOTHER: Sweet dreams to you *kisses her son*

Scene 2

STORY TELLER: School break. Our Gregory and his friends Martin and Megan are discussing Christmas plans

GREGORY: Have you already written letter to Father Christmas? What did you ask him? I asked him for a new airplane model. You know, it`s my hobby to collect different airplane models.

MEGAN: Tshhh! Keep it as a secret!

MARTIN: Oh! If a secret, I won`t tell you!!

*the senior pupil is passing *

SENIOR PUPIL: Hi kids! What are you talking about?

-Hi, old man! *laughing* It`s not your business.

SENIOR PUPIL: Of course it`s not my business! But I heard you were talking about Father Christmas. He exists only in fairytales, not in real! Don`t rely on him! *went away*

(children disappointed)

MARTIN: He lies!!Father Christmas exists, I know it!!

GREGORY: But what if his right?

MEGAN: Really! We have never seen him!

GREGORY: So, what about coming to my place and stay for Christmas night? We can see when he will put gifts into stockings!!

MARTIN: We can even catch him to be sure that hi is real Father Christmas!

MEGAN: Let`s ask our parents to come and to spent Christmas night with you, Gregory!

Scene 3 STORY TELLER: it`s evening, Christmas eve. The living room is decorated with colorful lights, toys the Christmas tree in the middle of the room and some stockings are on the fireplace. Children are waiting for the Father Christmas, they are hiding behind the sofa.

MEGAN: We are sitting here the whole evening!!!!!!! Where is he?!

MARTIN: Shhh! Don`t make noise!

GREGORY: It`s time for him to come!

*they heard loud crash near the fireplace*





FATHER CHRISTMAS: Oh, boy Gregory lives here. So, what does he like? *looking at his paper*

FATHER CHRISTMAS: Airplane models? *Father Christmas is standing with his back to the children, they don`t see his face*

MARTIN: Let`s catch him!

*the children are running to the fireplace*

GREGORY: We got you!

MEGAN: Let`s check, is he a real Father Christmas!!

*Martin pulling his beard*

MARTIN: Are you real Father Christmas?

GREGORY: Yes, he is! He`s not my father, I expected to see here!

FATHER CHRISTMAS: I think that you are good children! Why have you caught me?

*Children helped him to stand up*

*Gregory found airplane model in the stocking and is crying*

GREGORY: Oh!!!! This is my Christmas gift I asked!

MARTIN: Yay! You got that you want!

MEGAN: So, he is real Father Children, no doubt!

GREGORY: Oh, we are so sorry mister Father Christmas! We didn`t believe that you are real1

FATHER CHRISTMAS: Come down, kids! Believe in wonders and fairytales! Believe, that all your dreams come true!

Scene 1

It was snowing, the atmosphere was magic. Miss Ben was sitting on the armchair and she was reading the book, a fire crackled in the fireplace. Her grandchildren were sitting next to and they were looking forward to the new stories of their beloved grandmother.  

Granddaughter: Granny, Granny!!! We are waiting for you. Tell some interesting stories, please.  

Granny: My pretty children, I’m doing it with pleasure. But at first we will drink tea. English people like drinking tea very much. It is our tradition. 

Listen to me my children. 

 (меняются декорации, появляется уютная красивая деревушка, цветы, деревья) 

 Granny: When I was 14 we lived in the beautiful village. We had a big house with magic garden. My childhood was happy, parents liked me very much and they always pampered me.  

The poor family lived next door. This family was big , they had seven children.  

And I  am sad when I remember  how cruel I behaved towards them.

Mary: Oh, what is a wonderful day! I like swimming, running ,  playing with my friends. 

Kate: You are happy girl! You have all you want. I envy you. 

Mary: Yes, I am happy I have all I want. Envy me! 

Nelly: I like to make friends with you! 

Mary:  I am very clever and beautiful girl.

 Mary: Who are you? And what are you doing here? You mustn’t play with us! Go out!!!

Sam: I`m poor but I`m happy too because I live, I have a mother, brothers and sisters. 


 Scene 2

 Once evening returning home after school I didn`t notice the pit and I fell in it. The pit way rather deep, I couldn`t get out of the pit by myself and was in panic. Suddenly I heard voices of my friends.   

Mary: Help me!! I can`t get out! 

Friends: So so, this is our Mary! Look at her lying in the mud as a pig!

Mary: Help me, please!

Friends: Yes, yes. You will not get it!

Granny: I cried, I felt I was lonely. But soon I heard the familiar voice.

Sam: Mary, is it you?? What`s the matter with you? Wait for me, now I`ll help you!!

Mary: Help me please, I can`t get out!

Sam: Keep my hand.

Mary: Oh, Sam. Thank you very much!!!! I`m very ashamed of myself. I`m sorry, so sorry! I`m so afraid.

Sam: Mary, all right. I know you are not bad girl, simply you haven`t good friends! Good bye!

Mary: Wait, wait. I want to make friends with you. I understood my mistake, I`m ashamed of you!

 Narrator:- In distant and hot Africa lived a small jerboa, friendly and cheerful. He loved to somersault in the sand dunes. One day, a giant dust storm rose in the desert. The jerboa hid in its burrow and trembled with fear for several hours. When the storm subsided, he crawled out of the hole and saw something very unusual – a bright postcard on which was drawn some kind of magic tree decorated with apples.

Jebroa: I have never seen such a beautiful postcard! It’s interesting! Where is this magical place and how can I get there? 

 Narrator: The jerboa started ask all his friends and acquaintances, showing them a card.

Jebroa: Good afternoon, Missis Zebra! Today I found the fantastic postcard! Do you know what is it? Where is this country and how can I get there? 

 Zebra: Very interesting! It looks like a tree. Is it eatable? 

  Narrator:. The jerboa haven`t understand anything, but before going to bed, going to his burrow and looking at the starry sky, he made a wish - to get to a wonderful country. The next day, migratory birds flew through the desert.. (Sounds of bird voices). One of them was very tired, lagging behind the pack and falling




on the sand near the mink of the jerboa. Jebroa: What happened? Can I help you? 

The Bird: Could you bring me some water?

 Jebroa: Here you are!

The Bird: Thank you! I feel much better.  


 Narrator: The jerboa invited the Bird to his burrow, treated him to the seeds he had stored, and showed him a card.

The Bird: I saw this place! This is northern England. I could take you there on my wings.

Jebroa: I can’t believe! This is my dream!  

 

 Narrator: A week later, the Bird regained its strength, put the Jerboa on its back, and they flew to a magical snowy land.

The Bird: Now we are in England. I should fly further. I wish you to find new friends in this country!  

Jebroa: Good bye, dear bird! Thank you! Птица. Good bye!  


 Narrator: First of all, the Jerboa began to somersault in the snow, freezing with pleasure. He even tasted the snow. Some students dance the Waltz of the Snowflakes (the Jerboa sits in the center and admires the snowflakes).

Jebroa: It is wonderful! This is better than sand! 

 Narrator: A Hare ran by. He was in a hurry to decorate the Christmas tree, but when he saw an unusual animal, he stopped.

The Hare: Hello! Who are you?  

Jebroa: Hello! I am Jerboa! I came from Africa! And who are you? 

The Hare: Jerboa? It sounds strange… I’ve never heard about such animal! I’m a Hare. Why are you tumbling in snow, when others are decorating a Christmas tree, preparing Christmas socks?  

Jebroa: Snow, a Christmas tree! There are so many new words! 

The Hare: You don’t know these words! Poor African animal! You have lived so many years without Christmas and a Christmas tree! Let’s go together! I will show you my friends and we will tell you about Christmas traditions of Britain!  

Jebroa: Let’s go!  









“Story of the first Thanksgiving”

NARRATOR: Many years ago the pilgrims came to America. They sailed on a big ship, called the Mayflower.

PILGRIM SAM: I think we should leave England and find a place where we can worship God in our own way.

PILGRIM SALLY: I agree with you. We have to talk to other people and see who want join us.

NARRATOR: So the pilgrims leave England in September, 1620 in a Ship called the Mayflower with 102 people abroad the headed to America.

PILGRIM MILLY: Mom, I`m hungry, we only eat salted meat and dry bisquits.

PILGRIM SALLY: I know, we have been in this boat for almost two months. But I`m sure that we will soon get off this ship.

PILGRIM SAM: Everybody, look over there, I can see land!

PILGRIM SALLY: I told you, we are almost there.

NARRATOR: It took courage to cross the ocean. There were many dangers.When they landed to pilgrims needed food to eat. The looked for the fresh food in the forest.



PILGRIM SAM: Come everybody! We have to look for fresh food.

PILGRIM BEN: Let`s get separated to find the food.

PILGRIM LULU: Yes, I will go this way, and you go that way.

PILGRIM KATTIE: Hey, look! I have some berries.

PILGRIM RON: And I found some seeds.

NARRATOR: The first winter in America was long and hard.

PILGRIM MICHAEL: It`s cold. Everybody put on your heavy clothes.

PILGRIM KATRIN: And let`s protect our children.

NARRATOR: Many of the pilgrims became ill.

PILGRIM MORTY: I feel sick, mother.

PILGRIM ANNE: Somebody help me! My son is sick.

PILGRIM KATRIN: Give him this plant, he will feel much better.

PILGRIM ANNE: Thank you.

CHILDREN: What a beautiful day! Let`s dance and play.

NARRATOR: One day a kind Indian came to pilgrims village. He liked the pilgrims and wanted to help them.

CHIEF INDIAN: Hello people, I want to offer you my help.

PILGRIM BOB: Welcome to our village. We appreciate your help.

NARRATOR: Soon more Indians came. They were nice and showed the pilgrim how to plant corn.

INDIAN: We can show you how to grow your own food.

PILGRIM BOB: Please, tell us how.

NARRATOR: Together they hunted quail and turkey. They would be ready for the coming winter.

INDIAN POLLY: These are corn seeds. This is how you should plant them.

NARRATOR: And the Indians showed pilgrims how to plant corn, and wheat, and other vegetables. One of the Indians called Sqwanto. He was their special friend. The pilgrims and Indians agreed to live in peace.

SQWANTO: I want to be your friend. We also want to teach you how to hunt and fish.

INDIAN POLLY: We will hunt quail and turkey. Come let`s go to the forest.

NARRATOR: Then they went to the forest to hunt wild animals. When summer ended, the pilgrims wanted to have a feast. They had plenty of food and many new friends. The wanted to give thanks.

PILGRIM SAM: Let`s give thanks for all wonderful things we are have, for our food, and for our friends.

NARRATOR: The Indians came for the feast. Long tables were filled with wonderful things to eat.

ALL PILGRIMS: Sqwanto, tell your people to come with us and to join in a big feast of Thanksgiving! It will be a very special holiday.

SQWANTO: Yes, it will be a very special holiday. My people will bring wild turkey and fish.

NARRATOR: The Indians came to the fest.

PILGRIM SALLY: Let`s set the table and put this table cloth.

PILGRIM KATRIN: I will put the fruit.

PILGRIM LULU: And these are vegetables.

PILGRIM SAM: Everybody, come and sit down.

NARRATOR: And everyone gave thanks.

PILGRIM SALLY: We give thanks for our food and for our friends.

PILGRIM SAM: And for our many blessings.

EVERYBODY: Thank you, Lord.

Father: Oh, my child, you are so nice and kind…

Agakhanum: Thank you, Daddy. ( Входит мачеха. Она уже с утра сердита и ищет повод сорвать своё зло на Агаханум.)

Stepmother: Agakhanum ! What are you doing? Why are you not working?! You are speaking and laughing! The house is dirty. There is a lot of spider’s web and dust everywhere!

Have you made the breakfast? I’m hungry. Get a move on!

Agakhanum:Yes, Stepmother.

Stepmother: Abutalib, what did you speak about? Did your crazy daughter complain of her life?

Father: Oh, no ….

Stepmother: Keep silent! My poor daughters Aisha and Zeinab and I work day and night but she doesn’t stir a finger!

Stepmother: Good morning, Aisha.

Aisha: Good morning, Mummy dear.

Stepmother: How are you today, my child?

Aisha: Oh, I could not get to sleep all night. It was terrible. This girl began to sing her song and I woke up.

Stepmother: Oh, good morning, my dear. What’s the matter? What happened?

Zeinab: I could not get to sleep.

Zeinab: I’m hungry and thirsty! Agakhanum! Bring my breakfast! Be quick!

Agakhanum: Would you like tea or coffee?

Stepmother: Of course ! It is a good opportunity for us. We have to wear our best clothers!

S,Z,A: Agakhanum!

Agakhanum: Yes, I’m here.

Stepmother: We are going to the party. But we have not party dresses. We need beautiful hats, bands and ribbons, gloves and shoes.

C: You have a lot of different beautiful dresses in the trunk.

Let’s look and choose something.

Stepmother: (Sighs) A stupid girl! I have told you we want new dresses, new hats new shoes.

Aisha: And me too!

Stepmother: Go and sew! You must do it today!

Agakhanum: Yes, Mummy. And then I’d like to go to the ball, too.

A, Z: You?

Stepmother: Hush! Of course, my dear, you can go to the ball. But you must do some work: clean the house, wash the clothes, water the roses, feed domestic birds and animals, go to the market and buy food, cook dinner and sort lentil and peas.

Agakhanum: I cannot do it all.

Stepmother: Hurry up, girl! Maybe you’ll finish the work and go to the ball.

Daughters come with me!

Scene II

( Звучит музыка. Агаханум перебирает горох и чечевицу. Гаснет свет и появляется фея.)

Aunt Leila:Good evening, my dear girl!

Agakhanum: Oh, dear aunt Leila! Good evening! I’m glad to see you. How are you?

Leila: I’m OK. I see, you work hard today. I’d like to help you.

I can fulfill your wishes. Agakhanum, would you like to go to the party?





Agakhanum: Oh, yes.

Leila: So, I can give you my new car, my favorite priora.

Agakhanum:Oh my dear, you are so kind

(Агаханум уносит всё за занавес)

Leila:Stop! Stop! Look at your dress and shoes. You can’t go to the party without new clothes. Just a moment! I will choose something for you

Agakhanum: Thank you, dear aunt Leila! These clothes are beautiful.

Leila::And so are you, Agakhanum. Now you can go to the party and have a good time.

Agakhanum:Oh, thank you, thank you, aunt Leila.

Suleiman’s father: Let’s organize a competition.

Suleiman: As you like.

Suleiman’s father: Boys and girls. We decided to organize a competition.

I and my son will choose Suleiman’s bride. Now let’s begin

Aisha: You know, Agakhanum, there was a beautiful girl, who drove

in a beautiful priora

Zeinab: She had a beautiful dress and glass slippers on.

Aisha: Suleiman danced with her all evening.

Zeinab: But when she saw our mother she ran away.

Aisha: She was in a hurry and she lost her glass slipper.

Stepmother: Suleiman wants to marry her. He is looking for her everywhere

Suleiman: Good afternoon, I am looking for a young girl , I want to marry her But I don’t know her name .She lost her slipper at my party . Now , everyone of you must try this slipper on
