1. Warm Up. Motivation. What is the weather like today? What date is it today? Who is on duty today? What day of the week today? The theme of our lesson is “ Cheerleading”.

Now, I will divide you into 2 groups. First group will be: Strong students, second group will be: Funny students. I will give you cards, if you will be active today. Then, after the end of the lesson we will count your cards. Good luck!

Now, my dear students! We have some school rules. Who wants to tell our Golden rules?

Altinay: Pupils must be attentive at the lesson.

Aybolot: Pupils must wear uniforms.

Bilima: Pupils must stand up when a teacher comes into the classroom.

Kurmanjan: Pupils must raise their hands when they want to answer.

T: Let’s check your homework. What was your home task for today? Are you ready?

P: Yes, we are ready for our home task. Our home task was: to tell about our favorite sport and hobby.

T: Good job. Well done. Now, Open your books on page 20 exercise 1. At first, look at the blackboard and repeat these words after me and copy these words.

2. Working with vocabulary.

CROWD- the people who go to see a sports event.

TEAM – a group of people who do a sport together.

SCORE A GOAL – points that somebody scores in a sport like football or basketball.

FAN- a person who loves a team, a singer, a band, an actor.

MATCH- games between two people or two teams.

TEENAGER- a young people whom are 14-18 years old.

3. Presentation.

Now, let’s read and listen to the text.

Cheerleading.

Cheerleading is a very popular activity for girls in the USA. Most American secondary schools have got a cheerleading team. They cheer at sports matches at their school, for example, American football and basketball matches. Some teams also enter competitions. But is it really a sport? Over 50 % of Americans don’t think so. Here are the opinions of two American teenagers.

H: No, I don’t think cheerleading is a sport. In my opinion, it’s just dancing. The cheerleaders entertain the crowd at school sports events, but they’re just sports fans in uniforms! At my school, cheerleading is just for girls, and only the pretty girls join the team. In cheerleading competitions, the teams don’t score a goal or points, like in football or tennis. I think cheerleading is stupid.

D: First of all, cheerleading isn’t easy. Some of the routines are very difficult. Cheerleaders train a lot, and it’s important that they are strong, fit and healthy, just like other sportspeople. And they’re very skillful. A lot of cheerleaders are very good at gymnastics. Also, there are cheerleading competitions. So of course it is a sport.

4. Practice.

T: Now, dear students! Let’s answer to the questions using these cards.

1. What do cheerleaders do at sports events?

2. Do girls and boys do cheerleading at Hannah’s school?

3. How is cheerleading different from sports like tennis?

4. How are cheerleaders similar to other sports people?

5. What other sport are cheerleaders often good at?

T: Now, let’s do another exercise using next cards.

Are you tired?

P: Yes, we are!

T: Let’s sing a song about cheerleading.

P: We are number one,

Can’t be number two.

Hey, let’s fight

Win to night! Hooooooo!

5. The game “Crocodile”

T: Let’s play the game “Crocodile”. One pupil from Strong students and one pupil from Funny students , come to the blackboard. You should tell the definition of the given word or explain and your group should find the word.

Team, crowd, match, fan, score a goal, Aibolot, USA, tennis, football, teenager, a boy, a girl, cheerleading.

6. Application/Home assignments

Conclusion

T: You were very active today. Let’s count your cards. Your home task is: exercise 1.2.3 on page 20.At the end of the lesson I want to add the following proverb “Sports should always be fun”. Our lesson is over, according to the points the winner group is “…..” , your marks are ….

Thank you for your attention, good bye my dear students!
