British school education is one of the most multi-layered and prestigious in Europe. Children are offered a lot of options: private school, public school, separate education, coeducation, choice of subjects, choice of profession.
State schools
There are 3 types of state secondary schools:
- comprehensive schools
- grammar schools
- modern schools
comprehensive schools
Comprehensive schools accept students without entrance exams. In such schools, children are usually divided into humanitarian and technical groups, depending on the possession of certain skills.
grammar schools
Grammar schools provide a very high level secondary education. To enter such a school, you must pass a written exam at the age of 11 years.
modern schools
Modern schools do not prepare children for university entrance but for working specialties
Private school
British private school is the same visiting card of the country as the monarchy, theatrical art and rock music. Today in the UK there are almost four thousand private schools, and the first of them appeared here many centuries ago at monasteries.
In British schools there is both mixed and separate education.
The traditions of separate types of schools are a thing of the
past, and today male and female boarding house are very
popular: many elite institutions teach only boys or only girls.
There are two types of English private schools:
- a day school
- a boarding school
In practice, many schools combine these two systems.
Children go to day school just like in a regular school, and return home to spend the night.
Many schools, even public ones, are boarding schools. That is,
the students in them not only attend classes, but also live,
therefore all boarding houses have a large fenced territory (in
fact, a small campus), which houses a training, residential
building and a necessarily sports center.
Great Britain has been and remains one of the world
leaders in education. The schools of England are known
for their traditions and the highest level of teaching. Each
child can choose the school that suits him.
