COUNTRIES

If you were to ask ten people how many countries are in the world, you would probably hear ten different answers. Here at worldatlas we site 194 countries based on the 193 that belong to the  United Nations  (UN) plus the Holy See (Vatican), which is a non-member observer state. These 194 countries have full international recogonization as soveriegn states by other United Nation members.

Many sources such as  worldometers  state 195 countries, 193 UN members plus the two non member states but in that count they include the State of Palestine which is only recognized in 138 of the 193 United Nation member states and countires like the United States and Canada do not recognize it. For exampleThe  United States offically recogonizes 195 countries  as well, it has a simillar list of countries but instead of recognizing the State of Palestine it actually recognizes  Kosovo . Only 97 out of the 193 United Nation member states recognize Kosovo. In particular Spain is one of the biggest opponets due to its oppostion to the Basque and Catalan indpendence movements within its own country.

NATIONALITIES

There are many different nations around the world. Each nation has its own language, culture and traditions. In the past many people lived all their lives in one place and never met a foreigner. Nowadays, many people travel to foreign countries. TV and Internet bring foreign countries to our homes. It is easy for people from different countries to contact each other and learn about each other. This section will tell you more about different cultures.

LANGUAGE

There  are roughly 6,500 spoken  languages in the world  today. However, about 2,000 of those  languages  have fewer than 1,000 speakers. The most popular  language in the world  is Mandarin Chinese.  There  are 1,213,000,000 people in the  world  that speak that  language
