A WILD JOB
Wilson Jones, wildlife photographer.
We knew the crocodile was there, under the muddy water, waiting. But the lions, which were coming down to drink, didn’t. We had been waiting with our cameras since dawn. We filmed a terrible battle that day and, although no animals died, two lions and the crocodile were badly injured.
My job is making films about wild animals. I can be sent anywhere in the world. There are people who say that my job must be one long holiday. But being ready at any time to shoot film in some of the wildest places on Earth is not my idea of a holiday. And, if the animals don’t appear, we may wait around for weeks in terrible weather.
And usually I can only spend a few days at home and then I’m away again, perhaps for month. I don’t mind travelling by car or train, or even bus. But the worst thing is flying. I can’t stand flying long distances. However, I can’t do my job unless I fly to faraway countries. Don’t get me wrong. I love the work, But I’d like to travel a bit less in future.
Wilson Jones had started waiting for the animals before daylight.
