Rich country

At present the USA is a highly developed industrial and agricultural country. It is rich in coal, oil, iron and natural gas. America exports a lot of raw materials, industrial and agricultural products.

В настоящее время США является высокоразвитой индустриальной и аграрной страной. Она богата углем, нефтью, железом и природным газом. Америка экспортирует много сырья, промышленной и сельскохозяйственной продукции.

Wonders of nature

People enjoy the wonders of nature practically in every state.

Люди наслаждаются чудесами природы практически в каждом штате.

Nature

The Appalachians and the Rocky Mountains, forests, plains, prairies , deserts, wonderful lakes, waterfalls and rivers cover the American territory that equals about 9.4 million square kilometers.

Аппалачи и Скалистые горы, леса, равнины, степи, пустыни, прекрасные озера, водопады и реки охватывают американскую территорию, равную примерно 9,4 млн. квадратных километров.

The most famous sights

Among the most famous sights of interest are the Great Lakes, Niagara falls, the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco and others.

There are many beautiful National parks and protected areas in America.

The population of the USA is about 250 million people of many nationalities.

The biggest cities

The biggest cities are New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco and others.

Skyscrapers

There are many very tall buildings in them that really scrape the sky, that’s why they are called skyscrapers.

Washington D.C.

The capital of the country is Washington D.C. (the District of Columbia).

Federal republic

The USA is a federal republic. The American parliament (called Congress) has two chambers: the House of Representatives and the Senate.

США являются федеративной республикой. Американский парламент ( Конгресс ) состоит из двух палат : Палаты представителей и Сената .

The flag of the USA

The flag of the USA has 13 red and white stripes representing the original 13 states and 50 stars – for each of the 50 states of the country.

Флаг США имеет 13 красных и белых полос, представляющих оригинальные 13 штатов и 50 звезд - для каждого из 50 нынешних штатов страны.

Motto and symbol

Each state has its national motto, bird and flower as its symbol. For instance, California’s motto is “I found it! (Eureka).” Its state bird is Valley Quail and flower – Golden Poppy.

Каждый штат имеет свой национальный девиз, птицу и цветок в качестве своего символа. Например: девиз Калифорнии является « Я нашел его! ( Эврика)». Его государственная птица – перепел, а цветок - Золотой мак.

For instance, on the 4 th of July they celebrated Independence Day that gave birth to the American nation.

Например, 4 июля в Америке празднуют День Независимости, который провозгласил рождение американской нации.

Thanksgiving Day

At the end of November America has Thanksgiving Day which was celebrated for the first time in 1621 when the first colonists from England got their first good harvest.

В конце ноября в Америке - День благодарения, который начал отмечаться в 1621 , когда первые колонисты из Англии получили свой первый хороший урожай.

Halloween and St. Valentine’s Day

Young people enjoy two other holidays –

Halloween (on October 31) and St. Valentine’s Day

(on February 14).

Молодым людям нравятся два других праздника –

Хэллоуин ( 31 октября ) и День Святого Валентина

(14 февраля).
