ENGLAND

England is the largest part of the UK and consists of five regions: the Southeast, the Southwest, East Anglia, the Midlands and the North of England. The Southeаst is a highly populated region of England. The capital of the UK and such historical cities as Windsor, Dover and Brighton are situated here. The main passenger ports and airports are in this region too. Heathrow Airport, one of the world`s busiest airports, is about 33 km west of central London. It is famous for its resorts. Brighton is probably the best known of them. The Southwest is the region where the main activity is farming. Besides very big farms, there are small family farms where dairy products are produced. The two principal cities are Bristol and Bath. Famous Stonehenge, one of the remarkable historic places, is situated here. The westerly point of the UK “Land End” is also here. The Southeast is a popular place for artists, writers and holidaymakers. East Anglia is another farming region. It used to be partly covered by the sea and now produces good harvest. It is more than half surrounded by the sea and is away from the main national roads .It has beautiful cities with historic buildings such as Cambridge. Oliver Cromwell, an English general and politician, was born here.. The Midlands is the largest industrial part of the country. The most important industrial cities are Manchester, Sheffield, Birmingham and Liverpool which is one of Britain`s big ports.. Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon are closely connected with English culture: Stratford is the birthplace of great William Shakespeare and Oxford is famous for its university. The North of England is one of the wildest parts of England. Here you can find deep valleys, rivers waterfalls and mountains The main attractions of the North of England are the Lake District, the cities of York and Newcastle-upon-Tyne and the ruins of Hadrian`s wall. It is also one of the busiest industrial cities.
