Dear friends! I am glad to see you here at the opening of the English week. Our week is to start today on the 14 th of October and it will finish 18 th 0f October. The slogan of our week Is «I love English»!

Please try to speak English not only at the lessons of English but also during the breaks. It will be very interesting and useful for you because English is the international language of our times. You know that English is the native language of the people living in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Nothern Ireland. This nation is famous for keeping its customs and traditions. So many countries so many customs, as an English proverb says. The United Kingdom is not big country but it has become the native land for many nationalities, cultures, religions. The most numerous group of the population is the Englishmen, it is followed by the Irish, the Welsh, the Scots. And each nation has it is own culture, customs and even appearance.

Now I invite you to have a walk along the English streets (slide presentation) In the photos you can see

The London Tower, The Westminster Palace with Victory Tower an Big Ben.

Here you see the Thames, the building of the Tower, The Buckingham Palace and others. Such streets you can see in the towns of central England. Red colour is everywhere.

What is a real English Breakfast? It usually consists of fried eggs with bacon, tomatoes and mushrooms. And of course, toast with marmalade.

Now lets talk about holidays of United States of America.

(Slide Presentation) The major holidays in the USA are: New Years day, January 1 st, Valentine′s Day 14 th of February. It is not a national holiday. Banks and offices do not close, but it is a happy little festival. Washington′s Birhtday,February 22 nd, It is the United States first President birth. Easter is a church holiday, and many churchs have an outdoor sunrise service. People give each other presents off eggs which are the symbol of new life.

Memorial Day, May 30^th

It is a national holiday. On that day, Americans honour the serviceman who gave their lives in past wars.

Indapendence Day, July 4^th

On this day, in 1776, America signed the Declaration of Independence. It is a national public holiday celebrated with fireworks and speeches praising «Americanism, democracy, free enterprise»

Labor Day, the first Monday in September

It is a holiday of recreation. It marks the end of summer.
