McDonald's is an American catering corporation, the world's largest fast food restaurant chain, operating under the franchise system. At the end of 2018, 37,855 restaurants operated under the McDonald's trademark, of which 35,085 were franchised. The corporation is included in the list of the largest US Fortune 500 companies.
Тhe company was founded in 1940 by brothers Dick and Mac McDonald's (the first restaurant opened in San Bernardino, California), in 1948 for the first time in the world formulated the principles of the concept of "fast food".
The main goal of McDonald's in general and of each of its employees in particular is to 100% satisfy the wishes of every visitor of any fast service restaurant. It is very important for the company that the visit and the time spent for the visitor become a memorable and vivid impression. To achieve this goal, the main standard has been developed - Quality, Culture, Cleanliness, Accessibility.
I would like to elaborate on each of these standards in order to explain exactly what they mean.
Quality is the first Macdonalds principle that was taken as the basis is quality. The quality is not just food. But everything that has to do with the restaurant. Hardly anyone has complaints about the quality of food. The food is always delicious and fresh. There is a myth that eating in McDonald's is very harmful. But this is true only in part, and this has nothing to do with the quality of the products offered. Of course, if you constantly eat in McDonald's, you won't lose weight. Since most products are high-calorie. McDonald's kitchen - essentially open for display to all visitors. The quality of food preparation is closely monitored by the chief managers of the restaurant. For example, when a member of the team prepares French fries, he must set special timers that count how long the potatoes lay uncooked. If it is not bought within 5 minutes, then it must be written off. If you think that decommissioned potatoes replenish someone's stomach, then you are very mistaken. This is very strictly monitored. And this principle goes to absolutely any product. I want to note that products rarely deposit before a critical period.
Culture is McDonald's second principle (not by importance, of course, but by list). There is a rule in McDonald's that a visitor is always right. And if, for example, he dropped ice cream on the floor, colliding with another visitor, then he will never be refused completely free to replace this product. They will also apologize for the inconvenience. Like it was their fault that created a congestion of visitors, which they did not have time to serve. Absolutely any member of the brigade will politely answer all questions, demands and requests of the visitor. If the question of the visitor is not within the competence of a member of the team, then he will definitely call for the help of a senior manager or director, who will certainly try to solve the question of the visitor in his favor.
Another principle is cleanliness - the key to the success of the company is the perfect cleanliness of all restaurant premises, from the surrounding area to the rest room for employees.
And finally, accessibility is a relatively inexpensive cost of food in the restaurant, a bright and memorable impression, as well as a fun atmosphere and a good mood from visiting it. McDonald's will never increase availability by reducing the quality of the ingredients from which sandwiches are prepared for visitors.
It is impossible, I believe, to forget about another important principle, which is a consequence of strategic activities - this is the correct motivation of the staff. A fundamental aspect of McDonald's workforce management philosophy is to instill in employees a sense of pride in doing well and recognizing their achievements. The firm has developed procedures for evaluating and rewarding team members. The company's discipline policy is based on training and correction rather than punishment. Workers receive instructions on how to perform tasks that they do not do as they should.
I described the most important and basic principles of this corporation, but this is far from all. It is also impossible not to mention competently built relations with suppliers, successful advertising, focus on children, availability of delivery, the use of recycled paper for the production of their packages and even cooperation with charitable foundations.
In conclusion, I can say that McDonald's, more than any other fast food franchise, changed the way we eat, changed the way we spend our money on food, and revolutionized the restaurant business - not because they figured out how to cook the best hamburger, but because they created the perfect business system!
