Feodosiya - an ancient city on the Crimean coast

The Crimean city of Feodosiya has long gained popularity among holidaymakers from all over the former USSR. It is located on the south-eastern coast of the Crimea, in the very place where the steppe smoothly passes into the mountains. The mountainous relief of Tepe-Oba, towering above sea level for 302 meters, became a symbol of the resort, whose name from the Greek translates as "God given." The history of the city goes back to the far distant past: in the sixth century BC the Milesian colonists came here in search of a better share. Later, their quiet life was disturbed by the ubiquitous Huns, which could not be kept and destroyed God's given corner of paradise to the stone.

Then there was the Roman Empire and the Golden Horde, but only the Genoese merchants turned the settlement into a port city with the name Kafa. In one thousand four hundred and seventy-fifth year, Ottomans came here who appreciated the idea of ​​merchants and organized a large slave market in the city. Order finally led the Russian Empire, though not immediately. At the end of the eighteenth century, the port was destroyed and restored only by order of Catherine the Great in the eighty-seventh year. However, the resort history of Feodosia did not begin immediately - it's a lot of way to open a steamer service along the Volga and the Don and build a railway along these two rivers. Gradually stretched rested, who risked the first to rent houses for a day in Feodosia.

Initially, sea baths could only be taken in seventy bathhouses, on top of which a platform with a sea view was built. It was called a "bridge of sighs" - often came here young ladies and young lovers. The main attraction of Feodosia in the late nineteenth century was the picture gallery, which was presented to the city by the famous seascapes painter Aivazovsky.

• He generally cared about the city with care - he built a water pipe, knocked out a new building for the city museum. His own efforts in Feodosia had its own branch of the railway. Today, the Crimean resort took its deserved place among all other health resorts, and every season, beginning in mid-May to mid-October, thousands of thousands of tourists come by sea, by air and by land to this god-given city.
