I OPEN THE WORLD WITH A BOOK
NEXT
I open the world with a book “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”. The author of this amazing book is Harriet Beecher Stowe.
NEXT
Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote 30 books, including novels, three travel memoirs, and collections of articles and letters; but she is best known for her novel “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”. It depicts the harsh life for African American under slavery.
NEXT
I opened this book for myself some years ago when I was a first-year student. Our tutor advised us to read it.
NEXT
On the one hand, the goal of the book was to educate northerners on the realistic horrors of the things that were happening in the south.
The other purpose was to try to make people in the south feel more empathetic towards the people they were forcing into slavery.
NEXT
The book’s emotional portrayal of the effects of slavery on individuals captured the nation’s attention. Stowe showed that slavery touched all of society, beyond the people directly involved as masters, traders and slaves.
NEXT
Eva,
the daughter of Augustine St. Clare.
Eliza,
a slave and personal maid to Mrs. Shelby
Uncle Tom,
a noble, long-suffering Christian slave
Simon Legree,
a cruel slave owner
There are many significant characters in this novel
and many others…
NEXT
The character I liked the best is Uncle Tom. He is the main guy in the book. He was initially seen as a noble, long-suffering Christian slave. In more recent years, however, his name has become an epithet directed towards African-Americans who are accused of selling out to whites.
So Uncle Tom was a “noble hero” and praiseworthy person. Throughout the book, far from allowing himself to be explored, Tom stands up for his beliefs and is grudgingly admired even by his enemies.
NEXT
The main characters and a writing style evoke our sympathy and emotion. I always liked it when good triumphs over evil .
NEXT
The book and the plays it inspired helped to popularize a number of stereotypes about black people.
NEXT
“ Uncle Tom’s Cabin” was remarkable for its “intellectual complexity, ambition, and resourcefulness”.
Harriet Beecher Stowe is “the little lady who started the great war”.
NEXT
The knowledge gained from this book will be useful to everyone in life, because everyone should be kind, brave, intelligent, as the heroes of this book.
NEXT
Uncle Tom gives a great example of how to “work with one’s brain instead of a spear” to the kids reading this book. I would recommend this book not only to pupils but also to their parents. Moreover, I have already recommended it to my friends.
