Warm-up activities

1. Word Association:

  • Start with a word like «beach». Students take turns saying a word related to «beach» (e.g., sand, sun, swimming) until someone hesitates or repeats a word.

2. Two Truths and a Lie:

  • Each student tells the class three statements about themselves – two truths and one lie. The other students must guess which statement is the lie.

3. 20 Questions:

  • One student thinks of a person, place, or thing. The class asks up to 20 yes/no questions to try to figure out what it is. For example: «Is it a living thing?», «Is it something you can eat?»

4. Taboo:

  • One student describes a word without using a list of «taboo» words. For instance, if the word is «dog», they cannot say «pet», «bark» or «puppy». The other students guess the word.

5. Alphabet Game:

  • Choose a category (e.g., animals, foods). Students take turns naming something from that category in alphabetical order. For instance, «Antelope», «Bear», «Cat», etc.

6. Find Someone Who:

  • Create a bingo-style sheet with prompts like «Find someone who speaks more than two languages». Students mingle and ask questions to fill out their sheets.

7. Charades:

  • Prepare a list of verbs or actions and have students act them out while others guess. For example, if the action is «swimming», one student pretends to swim and the rest guess what it is.

8. Sentence Builder:

  • Provide students with a set of random words (e.g., «cat», «climbs», «tree», «the»). In groups, they must create the longest sentence they can using those words.
