• Данная игра может проводиться как

командно, так и индивидуально

• Вопросы игры разделены на 6 разделов,

в каждом из которых представлены по 5

вопросов различного уровня сложности

• Вопросы выбираются участниками

самостоятельно путем нажатия на

соответствующий квадрат

• При ответе на вопрос участникам

предлагаются варианты ответов, которые

появляются по щелчку. Если участник(и)

может дать ответ без вариантов, игрок(и)

получает дополнительно 10 баллов

Washington, D.C. lies on the Potomac River. It is located in the District of Columbia.

This place was chosen by George Washington to be the capital. The planning and building of a new capital began when Washington was the president. But he did not live there because it was not finished at the time. Only after his death in 1799, the nation’s

capital was named in his

honour.

Alaska – the largest state, that’s why it’s called “The Great Land”

Rhode Island – the smallest state. Its nickname is “Little Rhody”

Kansas – the geographical centre of the USA. It has two nicknames: “the Sunshine State”, “The Central State”

Delaware got a nickname of “The First State”. The people of this state were the first to approve of the Constitution of the USA.

Hawaii has the nickname “The Aloha State”. It was the last state which got its status of a state of the US.

• The USA doesn’t have any official

language

• English is the most commonly spoken

language within the United States. America, before gaining its independence, was a British colony.

• A large influence of Spanish people has

made the Spanish language the second

most widely spoken language within the

country

• Chinese is the third-most spoken language

in the United States.  It is spoken by immigrants mainly in the western state of California. 

• Most of the population lives in cities and towns
• A big number of Americans are of European origin
• More than 30 mln of people are Afro-Americans
• About 1 mln of people are Indians

The USA is usually called a “melting pot”, a “salad bowl”, “vegetable soup” because people of different nationalities live there, i.e. the Spanish, the English and the French, the Germans, the Swedes, the Dutch and the Swiss

• The USA occupies the central part of the North American continent.
• It borders on Canada in the north and Mexico in the south.
• It is washed by the Atlantic Ocean in the east, by the Pacific Ocean in the west and by the Gulf of Mexico in the south.

• The USA has over 250,000 rivers
• The length of the river Missouri is

2,540 miles 

• The name "Missouri" is derived from the tribe of Sioux Indians called the Missouris and means "town of the large canoes”

• The lake is spread out over more

than 307 miles.

• It has several cities located on

its shores and thousands of beaches

• The Lake is also famous for its

several national parks like the Hiawatha National Forest, Manistee National Forest, Nordhouse Dunes Wilderness, and Michigan Islands National Wildlife Refuge.

• It is located in south-central Alaska, in the central portion of the Alaska Range
• The mountain's peak is 20,310 feet (6,190 meters) above sea level
• The mountain is extreme cold, which can be minus 75 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 60 degrees Celsius)
• Since 2015 Mount McKinley has got another name Denali which means "The Great One”, "The High One” or “The Tall One”
•   It is the centerpiece of Denali National Park.

• The Falls at Niagara are about 12,000 years old
• There are actually two waterfalls in Niagara, the American Falls and the Canadian Horseshoe Falls.
• The word Niagara comes from the word "onguiaahra" which means "a thundering noise".
• Water that flows over the Falls at Niagara ultimately ends up in Lake Ontario - from there, water drains by way of the St. Lawrence River in to the Atlantic Ocean.

• Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer who made four voyages across the Atlantic Ocean
• Columbus discovered America by accident. He was trying to find a new route to China and thought by sailing west he would find a quicker and easier route.
• On 12 October 1492, Christopher Columbus reached the Americas. The second Monday in October is Columbus Day, a holiday commemorating this event.

• American Indians are also known as Native Americans, Indigenous Americans or Indians
• There is no exact information how or when the Native Americans first settled the Americas
• Scientists proposes that American Indians migrated from Eurasia to present-day Alaska during the Ice Age
• Native Americans gave the white men sweet potatoes, several kinds of beans, many plants (i.e. tobacco)

• New England   is a geographical region

comprising six states in the northeastern part of the United States: Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.

• Boston, the capital of Massachusetts, is

New England's largest city.  

• Those Englishmen who came to America in

1620 and founded the colony of Plymouth (now state Massachusetts) are usually called the Piligrims

• The settlements and towns they built have

English names with the word ‘new’ as a prefix (New York, New Jersey)

• The Declaration of Independence was

approved by Congress in 1776 on July, 4 th

• This document said that The American

colonies had all the rights to stay free and

independent

• Since that time this day America has the

greatest national holiday, which is the

birthday of the nation. This holiday is called

Independence Day

• Thanksgiving Day is celebrated on the

fourth Thursday of November

• This holiday was introduced as a national

one by George Washington in 1784

• This is a day for families and friends get

together, share a special meal, and the time for a lot of people to give thanks for whatever people have to thank for in their life.

• Turkey, corn, pumpkins and cranberry sauce are symbols of Thanksgiving Day

• The Statue of Liberty is a copper statue,

a gift from the people of France to the people of the United States, was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and built by Gustave Eiffel. The statue was dedicated on October 28, 1886.

• The statue depicts a woman, standing

upright, dressed in a flowing robe and a spiked crown, holding a stone tablet close to her body in her left hand and a flaming torch high in her right hand. 

•   The statue is 46 meters tall and more than 204 tons by weight

• The bald eagle was chosen as the emblem

of the United States of America on June 20th, 1782

• The bald eagle was chosen as the emblem

of the United States because of its long life, great strength and majestic looks, and also because it was then believed to exist only on this continent.

• On the backs of gold coins, the silver

dollar, the half dollar and the quarter, we see an eagle with outspread wings. 

• The eagle symbolises independence and

freedom

• An American flag has got another

nicknames: Old Glory and The Star-Spangled Banner.

• The current design of the U.S. flag is its

27th; the design of the flag has been modified officially 26 times since 1777.

• The first American flag was made by

Betsy Ross who knew George Washington well.

• The first unofficial flag, made in 1776 at

the beginning of the War of Independence, showed 13 stripes and the Union Jack in the left corner.

• The 50 stars on the flag represent the

50 states of the United States of America

• The 13 stripes represent the thirteen

British colonies that declared independence from the United Kingdom, and became the first states in the U.S

• The last stars representing Hawaii

Island and Alaska were added in 1959.

• The 50-star flag was ordered by then

president Eisenhower on August 21, 1959, and was adopted in July 1960. It is the longest-used version of the U.S. flag and has been in use for over 57 years.

• It has been the residence of every U.S.

president since John Adams, the second US president, in 1800.

• The White House has 6 floors and 132

rooms. 

• You can see the sports facilities such as

indoor tennis courts, a running track, swimming pool, bowling alley, billiard room and cinema. 

• Thomas Jefferson (1801-1809) opened

the White House to the public and invited guests every day of American independence.

• It is designed in the Art Deco style and

has been named as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World 

• The construction of it lasted two years

and was completed in 1931

• It is the tallest building in New York

City and the second-tallest building in the United States, after the Sears Tower in Chicago.

• Each day over 4,000 people take the

elevator up to the observatory of the Empire State Building to catch a minute of glory. 

• The Washington Monument is

an obelisk on the National Mall in Washington, D.C

• It is a United States Presidential

Memorial constructed for George Washington, the first president of the US and the leader of the revolutionary Continental Army that won independence from the British after the American Revolutionary War.

• There is an elevator in it which can bring

visitors to the top of it in 70 seconds. There you can enjoy the magnificent view of the city

• Broadway is the longest avenue in New

York

• Its total length is more than 400 miles

(21 km)

• Broadway was built when the first

settlement of New Amsterdam appeared

• The name Broadway is the English

language literal translation of the Dutch name, Brede weg, which means “broad road”

• Broadway is known widely as the heart

of the American theatre industry

• There are more than thirty theatres

• New York is a multinational country. New

Yorkers speak about 75 different languages

• It is a big seaport on the Hudson River
• New York City is made up of five

boroughs: the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island

• It has many landmarks famous all over

the world: the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Fifth Avenue, Times Square and Carnegie Hall

• The City of Washington was founded in

1791 to serve as the new national capital.

• It is often called “the heart of America”.

The government of the States works and the President lives here.

• The population of it is not big, near

700, 000 people

• The buildings in Washington are not high.

It is so because of a special law, which forbids to build houses taller than Capitol.

• Washington is a large scientific and

cultural centre. There are five universities, many research and designing institutes are concentrated here.

• It is the second most populous city in

the US (after New York City) 

• Its population is nearly 4 mln people
• Los Angeles gains the nicknames: City of

Angels, Angeltown, Lalaland, Tinseltown, the Big Orange, City of Flowers and Sunshine, and of course L.A.

• L.A. has at least 90 theaters with over

1,000 theatrical productions annually and more than 300 museums. That’s why it’s often called the “Creative Capital of the World.”

• Boston is one of the oldest cities in the

United States, founded on the Shawmut Peninsula in 1630 by Puritan settlers from  England

• It was the scene of several key events of

the American Revolution, such as he Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, the Battle of Bunker Hill, and the Siege of Boston.

• Boston an international center of higher

education, including law, medicine, engineering, and business, and the city is considered to be a world leader in innovation

• the Martin Luther King, Jr. National

Historic Site , which includes the preserved childhood home of Dr. Martin Luther King

• the Atlanta Cyclorama & Civil War

Museum , which depicts the Battle of Atlanta in the Civil War

• the World of Coca-Cola , featuring the

history of the world-famous soft drink brand and its well-known advertising

• the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum , where Mitchell wrote the best-selling novel ’Gone with the Wind’.
