I'm proud of my region

I live in Kurgan region. It is a small area behind the Ural Mountains, at the very beginning of Siberia. We don’t have oil and gas. We do not produce cars and computers. But I love my area. I am proud of its unique nature and historical monuments. Most of all I am proud of people.

Kurgan region has given Russia and the world a lot of famous people from different spheres of life. These are doctors, artists, scientists and athletes. I want to tell you about some of them .

Gavriil Abramovich Ilizarov

is a Soviet orthopedic surgeon. G.A. has gone a long way from Azerbaijan to a world-famous doctor. His name is known to many people who live a full life thanks to his unique technique.

Mikhail Alexandrovich Fadeev

is a Russian musician, director, composer, author and performer. At the age of five he entered a music school, at fifteen he entered a music college. At seventeen he started writing songs and thinking about a musical career. In 1989 he took third place in Jurmala. From that day on his career grew rapidly. He is the producer of many stars and the creator of many famous songs.

Galtsev Yuri Nikolaevich

is a pop and clownery actor, a movie actor. Yuri Galtsev lives in St.Petersburg. He graduated from school number 31, Machine BuildingInstitute and then the Institute of Theatre and Cinematography in Leningrad. Yuri Galtsev has many awards and prizes. In 2000 he received the title “Best Actor of the Year”. Since December 2008 he has been the director of St.Petersburg Variety Theatre. He also teaches at St.Petersburg Academy of Theatrical Art.

Herman Travnikov

He was born in the Shatrovsky district in 1937. In 1956 he entered the Sverdlovsk Art College. In 1963 he moved to Kurgan where his first personal exhibition took place in 1970. There were about 20 of them in different cities of Russia, as well as in Poland and Sweden. Since 1967 he is a member of the Union of Artist. In 1982 he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation. He has many medals and awards. His works are in the collections of many Russian and foreign museums, in private collections.

This is a small part of the people our region is proud of. Among them there are such famous names as :

Anfinogenov Nikolai - the first ordinary soldier awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union in the Afghan War.

Vitebsky Yakov Davidovich - a Soviet medical scientist and surgeon.

Terenty Semenovich Maltsev - a breeder and innovator of agriculture of the USSR.

Alexey Kuzmich Yugov - a Russian Soviet writer, literary critic, translator.

Svetlana Kapanina - a six-time absolute world champion in aerobatics on airplanes.

Viktor F. Potanin - a writer, a winner of many prestigious awards.

Menshchikov Alexander - a 4–time champion of Russia in Greco-Roman wrestling.

And many many others!
