«Города-призраки»

Цели урока:

Практические (учебные):

1. Повторение лексики по теме «Описание мест и достопримечательностей».

2. Совершенствование и систематизация лексических единиц по теме «Описание мест и достопримечательностей» в устной речи посредством различных видов упражнений.

3. Выразительное чтение и работа с текстами (введение социокультурной информации).

Развивающие:

1. Развитие коммуникативных навыков по теме «Описываем места».

2. Развитие памяти, мышления, внимания.

3. Развитие способности анализировать и делать выводы.

4. Развитие социокультурной компетенции.

Образовательные:

1. Расширение кругозора учащихся.

Ход урока

1. Организационный момент урока. Описание погоды.

2. Отгадывание темы урока. Каждая цифра представляет собой букву алфавита.

1. Речевая разминка. Подготовка к восприятию основного материала урока.

   1. Teacher: Look at the board. What are we going to talk about today? Ok. Right you are, we are going to talk about Ghost towns. So, my first question is: What is a ghost town? Is it a town full of ghosts?

(Ответы учащихся)

Teacher: Have a look. Which variant is the best one? (Ответы учащихся)

Teacher: Yes, it’s a town in which people lived but now there aren’t any. So today we’re going to meet some ghost towns, to listen and to read about them. Can you give me any examples of ghost towns?

5.1. Чтение о городе – призраке, работа с текстом, ответы на вопросы и заполнение таблицы.

Teacher: Now, please, open your books. Go to p. 66 and look at the picture. How can you describe this place? It’s another ghost town. Прослушивание текста, а затем его выразительное чтение (учебник стр.66).

MINERAL PARK - THE GHOST TOWN

Mineral Park is a town in the United States. It is called a 'ghost town' because no one lives there anymore. It was a different town in the past though.

In 1871, 700 people lived in Mineral Park. There was a school, lots of shops, a post office, saloons, a doctor's, a hotel, a restaurant and even a weekly newspaper. It was a very busy town with lots of people but no cars. People travelled by train and on horses.

Lots of the people from Mineral Park, worked in the mines. After work they liked to spend their free time in the saloons and restaurants. Everyone was happy and wealthy, but all that stopped.

After 1887 Mineral Park started to change into a quiet town. Many families moved to other towns and the shops closed down. Some people tried to stay but there was nothing for them to do. By 1912, the town was nearly empty. Today, there are only a few ruined buildings left. People still visit Mineral Park though to get an idea of what life was like in the past.

Teacher: Ok. Now I give you small sheets of paper with tables on them. Your task is to read the text once again and complete these tables.

1. Прочти текст о Чернобыле. Отметь знаком «+» то, что вы уже знали, знаком «-», что для вас новое, знаком «!» то, что удивило вас. Read the short text about Chernobyl. Mark with “+” what you know, “?” what is new for you and “!” what surprises you. (слайд15)

Chernobyl was a city in northern Ukraine, in the Kyiv Oblast near the border with Belarus. The government evacuated the city in 1986 due to the Chernobyl disaster at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, which is located 14.5 kilometers (9 miles) north-northwest. The power plant was named after the city, and located within Chernobyl Rayon (district), but Power Plant workers lived in Pripyat, a city, which was larger and closer to the power plant.

Though the city today is mostly uninhabited, a small number of inhabitants live in houses marked with signs stating that the "Owner of this house lives here".

Before the government evacuated the people, there lived about 15,000 residents.

5.7. Применение приобретенных знаний на практике.

Teacher: Dear students, now your tables are complete. And I want you to talk about Ghost-towns we’ve met today; of course, you can use the information from the tables.

1. Объяснение домашнего задания. (слайд 17)

Прочитать текст о Фамагусте и заполнить 3 столбик таблицы.

Famagusta was home to 45,000 people. We left it in August 1974 when the Turkish army invaded (вторглась). We never returned (не вернулись).

Ever since my hometown is dead, empty, home to rats and reptiles.

Famagusta today is home to nobody. It’s a ghost town with empty buildings under the occupation of the Turkish army.

Before 1974 Famagusta was home to 45,000 famagustans who lived happily and worked patiently (терпеливо) to make it the 1^st tourist destination (направление) of the island. Thousands of tourists visited and enjoyed our hometown and its rich historical sights (достопримечательности).

Before 1974 Famagusta was a busy commercial centre. All main streets had modern shops, trendy fashion boutiques selling products from all over the world. The colourful markets offered (предлагали) the best local products: vegetables, tasty potatoes from the rich red soil (почва), oranges, lemons and fresh fish from the sea.

Famagusta was a vivid (живой) city with lively people, restaurants, cinemas, coffee shops and night clubs. Famagusta never slept.

1. Оценивание учащихся. Учащиеся сами себя оценивают и объясняют почему они хотят поставить себе такую оценку.

1. Подведение итогов. Рефлексия.
