Organizational Moment (3 min)
Good morning, dear girls! How are you? Who is on duty today? Who is away? What day is it today? What is the date today? Do you like the weather? Why? Thank you, sit down, please!
Raise your hands those who has a hobby. Everybody has a hobby! Today you will learn to speak about your hobbies. We will tell each other what interests we have. We will also try some new forms of work. Be attentive and active.
The Presentation Stage
Ex. 1. Brainstorming (3 min)
Let’s recollect as many verbs for hobbies as we can. Take one minute to fill in the scheme on your sheets of paper. Get ready and then we will work in chain. (Students name hobbies one by one. The teacher makes the scheme on the blackboard, the others fill it in in the handouts).
(possible variants: to go info sports, to read books, to go to the theatre/cinema, to listen to music, to travel, to dance, to sing, to watch films, to swim, to play the guitar, to draw, to play computer games, to watch TV, to meet friends, to take care of pets, etc.)

Ex. 2. Grouping (2 min)
Now let’s divide all the hobbies into 3 groups and colour the verbs three colours.
Hobbies for health (blue) | Hobbies for mind (green) | Hobbies for pleasure (red) |
to go info sports to dance to travel to sing to swim to cook | to read books to go to the theatre/cinema to play the guitar to draw to collect something | to listen to music to watch films to play computer games to watch TV to meet friends |
The Practice Stage
Ex. 3. Pronunciation drill (3 min)
Now you will learn to pronounce all the verbs for hobbies in a proper way. Let’s pronounce all together:
all the verbs;
the verbs for hobbies for your health;
the verbs for hobbies for your mind;
the verbs for hobbies for pleasure.
Choose one hobby that you find interesting and one that is boring for you, name them (in chain). We will have two rounds.
The Performance Stage
Ex. 4. Substitution Table (8 min)
Tell us about your and your friends’ and relatives’ interests. Make up 5 true sentences. You have 2 minutes. Don’t read!
I My mother My father My sister My brother My friend | like(s) dislike(s) find(s) it interesting/boring | to | to go info sports to read books to go to the theatre/cinema to listen to music to travel to dance/sing to watch films/TV to swim to play the guitar/piano to draw to play computer games to meet friends |
Now listen to your classmates attentively and put a plus ‘+’ near the hobby that someone finds interesting and a minus ‘-‘ near the boring hobby. What is the most interesting / boring hobby for our group?

x. 6. Sharing Opinions (15 min)
The girl in the picture is Lilly. Read what she says about her hobby. What does she find interesting? What does she find boring?
I like to play the guitar. I find it boring to watch TV, read books or draw. But the guitar is for me. I started to learn to play a week ago and can’t stop. My friends don’t like it, but my mom also finds it interesting to play the guitar and helps me a lot. We have lessons every day. I think it is my true hobby.
Now tell the class what your hobby is. What do you find interesting and what boring? When did you start to do it? What is your friends’ and relative’s attitude to it? You can use Lilly’s answer and sentences from ex. 4 as a model. You have 3 minutes to get ready.
(Then one of the girls speaks about her hobby, the others listen to her and answers the teacher’s questions).
If we have no time, ex.6 is to be done at home.
The Concluding Stage (3 min)
That is all for today. We have recollected different hobbies, learnt to speak what we find interesting or boring. Next time we will continue and tell each other more about our interests. Thank you for your work. … worked well today. … was not very attentive.
Home task (on the blackboard):
